A Celebration of Life Service to honor the life and legacy of LaMae Horkey, age 91, of Westbrook, will be held on Thursday, October 3rd at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Heron Lake with Pastor Kathy Brandt officiating. Burial will be at Amo Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church from 10 to 11 a.m.

LaMae Ruth Horkey was born on September 2, 1933, to Oscar and Ida (Hofstad) Olson in Windom, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Amo Methodist Church. She attended and graduated from Windom High School.

She married Vernal "Bud" Horkey in 1951. This union blessed them with four children: Diane, Rick, Scott and Lisa. LaMae and Bud farmed in Rosehill Township until Bud's death in 2018.

LaMae enjoyed the farm life and kept busy by gardening, raising chickens, sewing and baking. There was always cookies, bars, or cake in the house to snack on.

LaMae was an accomplished seamstress and sewed most of the clothes for her family along with curtains, quilts and doll clothes. She loved decorating the house for each season. When LaMae had free time, she could be found reading a book in her recliner.

LaMae was a lifetime member of Amo Methodist Church. She and Bud were members of the Boots-n-Bows Square Dance Club.

LaMae will be missed by her family. Left to cherish her memory is daughter, Diane (Philip) Schmitz of Fredonia; son, Scott (Jody) Horkey of Windom; grandchildren, Tim Morphew, Jeff Morphew, Shawna Horkey, Jessica Marsh; ten great grandchildren, four sister-in -laws, Millie Horkey, Marian Nelson, Mary Horkey and MiTzu Olson.

LaMae was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 67 years, Bud, son, Rick, daughter, Lisa, and her brothers, Dean Olson and Milton Olson.
