Larry Allen Hewett was born on March 27, 1949, in Windom, Minnesota to the late Clarence and Clara (Hanson) Hewett. He was baptized and confirmed at the American Lutheran Church in Windom. Larry received his education in the Windom Public Schools; graduating in the Class of 1967. He then worked at Schweitzer's in Windom and Fingerhut before being drafted into the United States Army on February 6, 1969. During this time, Larry fought in the Vietnam War having received the Vietnam Service Medal, the Bronze Star and the National Defense Medal. He was in combat infantry and received the combat infantry badge. He attained the rank of SP4. On February 5, 1971, he was honorably discharged and returned to Windom where he worked at TORO. He then went to Pipestone Vo-Tech and then started working for Pepper Construction out of Mankato as a mason and then went on his own and did various masonry work. On April 30, 1977, Larry was united in marriage to Mary Pankonin, in Windom. This marriage was blessed with one daughter, Beth. After marriage, Larry worked at Ag-Chem and then worked on his own as a mason refurbishing chimneys and pouring sidewalks. Recently, Larry's health had been declining and he was taken to the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he passed away on Monday morning, May 11, 2015, at the age of 66 years. Larry was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom. He had many enjoyments in life which included gardening, riding bike, going to the lake, guns, pheasant hunting, grilling, radio, and spending time with his family, especially his three granddaughters, Maria, Loreta, and Angelina. Larry is survived by his wife, of thirty-eight years, Mary Hewett of Windom; one daughter, Beth Hewett of Windom; three granddaughters, Maria, Loreta, and Angelina; two sisters, Betty Stahl and her husband, Ronald of Windom; Jean Fast and her husband, Nathan of Mt. Lake; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Larry is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Edward Hewett and one nephew, Tom Stahl.
