Obituary

Larry Albert Schauer was born on October 27, 1940, in Westbrook, Minnesota to the late Albert Otto and Vivian Christine (Nelsen) Schauer. He was confirmed at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Storden. Larry received his early education in the Westbrook and Storden elementary schools and graduated from Storden High School in the Class of 1958. He then attended Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa. On December 26, 1964, Larry was united in marriage to Judy Ann Christensen. This marriage was blessed with three children, Lauri, Lisa and Jeremy and they made their home north of Storden. Larry farmed through the years and worked at the Storden Builders Supply. He also hauled (trucked) cars all over the United States and Canada. Larry was a longtime member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Storden where he was a one time member of the church council. He also was active in his community as a member of the Herbert-Reese American Legion Post #391 in Storden; the Storden Saddle Club, Storden Township Treasure and a foster parent to disabled adults and children for thirteen years. Larry had many enjoyments in life which included woodworking, horse shows, fishing, hunting, trap shooting and spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. For the past several years, Larry's health had been declining and was recently hospitalized at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he passed away on Tuesday evening, April 21, 2015 at the age of 74. Larry is survived by his wife of fifty-years, Judy Schauer of rural Storden; three children, Lauri Schauer-Bird of Chanhassen; Lisa Kay (Larry) Ward of Cleveland, OH; Jeremy Scott Schauer of Waverly; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Ruth Christensen of Windom; three siblings, Linda Karow of Jordan; Charles (Sherri) Schauer of St. Petersburg, Florida; Kathy Ziller of Lakeville; one brother-in-law, Merlin Hansen; along with many nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; Father-in-law Oscar Christensen, sister, Rachel Hansen, brother-in-law Dennis Karow, sister-in-law Jeris Christensen Van Denberg and nephew Dennis Hansen.
