Larry
Schwarting
Sep 19, 1940 — May 18, 2025
A Graveside service to honor the life and legacy of Larry Schwarting, age 84, of Storden, will be held at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery on Sunday, June 29, 2025 at 12:30 PM.
Larry passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Good Samaritan Society in Westbrook.
Larry was born on September 19, 1940, to Earl and Eileen (Hemmig) Schwarting of rural May City, Iowa. He received his education at a country school near his childhood home. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
He was united in marriage to Geneva Ann (Young) on March 30, 1963, at the United Methodist Church in Bigelow, Minnesota. After marriage, Larry and Geneva started their lives together in Lake Park, Iowa, where he had a feed grinding business. He also worked with his father and grandfather farming near May City. Later, Larry entered into a milk hauling business in the Worthington, MN area. The family relocated to Storden in 1970, after the Okabena creamery closed and Larry had to haul the milk to Storden's creamery. In 1985, Larry sold his milk hauling business and purchased Don's 66 service station from Don Sorensen of Storden. After selling the service business, he was employed by the city of Storden doing city maintenance operations. He volunteered with the Storden Fire Department for several years and on the Storden City Council for many years as a councilman and as Mayor.
Larry was an avid gun collector. He loved trap shooting and hunting. He was also a motorcycle enthusiast. He and Geneva went on many rides and motorcycle vacations with friends over the years. Larry was a longtime member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Storden.
Larry is survived by his two sons, Boyd (Judy) Schwarting of Port St. Lucie Florida, Heath (Ronella) Schwarting of Worthington; five grandchildren, Chad, Tara Mae (Tyler), Nicholas, Cole, and Kyle (Natalie); three great-grandchildren, Klhoe, Hendrick and Everson; one sister, Beverly Heimsoth of Scottsdale AZ, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Geneva, daughter, Lori Schwarting, his parents, parents in-law, sister Karen Holst, brothers in-law Gene Holst, Bob Heimsoth and Leslie Young.
Blessed be the memory of Larry Schwarting.
