Larye Lyle Hansen was born on January 8, 1939, in Spirit Lake, Iowa, to Roy Everett and Frances Elma (Hedge) Hansen. He was the youngest of nine children. Larye attended rural country schools and graduated from Jackson High School with the class of 1956. After graduation, Larye began his lifelong career as a farmer, along side his brothers, Lowell and Harold.
On September 6, 1969, Larye was united in marriage to Lois Lentz at the United Methodist Church in Jackson, Minnesota. Their union was blessed with four children: Rick Lee, Tina Marie, Amy Louise, and Ryan Lyle. Together they raised their family on the farm in Middletown Township. He dedicated countless hours to tending hogs, cattle, and sheep while also working crops and selling seed corn. Additionally, he spent 15 years as a maintenance engineer at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital before retiring in 2003.
Larye found joy in various pursuits throughout his life, including farming, travel, family gatherings, and culinary adventures – particularly as a grill master. He enjoyed tinkering with projects and fiddling with his computers. He also spent many hours mowing his lawn and when that wasn't enough, mowing at the Loon Lake Golf Course.
Larye passed away peacefully on April 27th, at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 85.
He leaves behind a legacy cherished by his wife, Lois; children, Rick (Melissa) Hansen of Spirit Lake, IA, Tina Nordsving of Lakeville, MN, Amy (Aaron) Mosterd of Tea, SD, and Ryan (Pamela) Hansen of Des Moines, IA; eleven grandchildren, Cody (Jasmin), Spencer, Cortney, Faith, Nicki, Nicholas, Sierra, Wesley, Micah, Connor, and Ezra; great-grandson, Blayne, siblings, Gayle Titus, Lois Werner, and Lowell Hansen; sister-in-law, Nancy Hansen; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Larye was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Frances; siblings and in-laws, Gerald (Maxine), Gordon, Dale Titus, Grace (Meryl Ostwald), Leroy (Ardy), Orrie Werner, Carole, and Harold.
Larye will be deeply missed by all, including his loyal K9 companion, Jake.
Blessed be the memory of Larye Lyle Hansen.
