Obituary

Laura Van't Hul Hackett, age 69, of Jackson, died Friday, May 10, 2024 at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, MN, where she had resided the past four months.

A Private, Family Graveside Service for Laura Hackett, age 69, of Worthington, formerly of Jackson, will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Jackson.

Laura was born on her mother's birthday, on September 28, 1954, in Sheldon, IA. She was a middle child of eight siblings. Laura was baptized into the Christian faith in Colton, SD. She attended elementary school in Worthington and graduated from Jackson High School.

On May 18, 1975, Laura became a mother by welcoming her son Jason into her life. As a single mom, she devoted her love to him and this was one of her greatest joys in life. Through her working years Laura was employed by Good Samaritan-Jackson, Ag Chem-Jackson, Marquette Banks-Minneapolis, and most recently at CCC Information Services-Sioux Falls, SD. During her time in Minneapolis she was self employed for 15 years providing house cleaning services. Laura retired in 2016, returning to Jackson. She loved helping others in her community, often sharing her homemade Banana Bread loaves around town. Laura was not much of a traveler, but she loved getting the Van't Hul family together for reunions every summer. For many years she was organizing and planning the VHFCO event months in advance! Laura was very creative, loved artwork, drawing, sketching, and painting.

Shortly after retirement, Laura was diagnosed with Lewy Body dementia and a long struggle with the disease began in 2017. She entered Temperance Memory Care-Sherburn in March, 2020, at the start of the Covid pandemic. After an injury and surgery, Laura was placed in hospice care at Sunset Hospice Cottage-Worthington in January, 2024. Our family is eternally grateful for the staff and care given to our sister by these care facilities. Her long and lonely journey with dementia was difficult. Laura's family is comforted by knowing her faith will bring a resurrection promise in the midst of their loss.

Survivors include her son, Jason of New Hope, MN; siblings, Linda Frey of Annandale, MN,

Rhonda (Larry) Frey of Rapid City, SD, Cliff (Mary) Van't Hul of Isle, MN, Deb (Darrell) Schneider of Crosslake, MN, and Terry (Jill) of Rapid City, SD; sister-in-law Linette Hofbauer of Jackson; and many nieces and nephews.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Esther Van't Hul; brothers, Dwayne Van't Hul and Dean Van't Hul; brother-in-law, David Frey; Sister-in-law Albertha Van't Hul; and nephews Jeff and Steven Van't Hul. Blessed be her memory.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28
