Obituary

Lavonne June (Olson) Fett, daughter of Cyril Albin Olson and Gea Onora (Brenne) Olson was born June 7, 1924 in Christiania Township, Jackson County, Minnesota. Lavonne was baptized at Bethany Lutheran Church near Bergen. She attended Jackson County School District #53 through seventh grade and graduated from Windom High School June 4, 1943. When she graduated, Vonnie was engaged to her high school sweetheart, Francis 'Fritz' Donald Fett, who at that time was stationed at Fort Ord, California. Their wedding was held on June 19, 1943 in Los Angeles, CA after the bride-to-be had traveled 4 days by train from Windom. Fritz and Vonnie's first place of residence was a former goat shack in Monterey, not far from Ft. Ord and Lavonne's first job was in the laundry on base. Their first child, Clarice, was born in 1944 while Fritz was stationed overseas. Following WWII in 1945, the family of 3 moved to the Christiania Township farm where Lavonne and Fritz lived for 65 years raising their children, Clarice, Sheila, Nancy and Kevin. Lavonne worked a number of years at Mix Bakery, List Bakery, Ronnie's and the Fair Store in Windom. She was active in 4-H and many evenings were spent watching Bergen softball. Over the years, Lavonne had many interests. She learned how to play golf, enjoyed playing cards with friends and took polka dance lessons with Fritz. They even followed a Polka Band to Hawaii. Lavonne loved family history and her research of the Brenne Family resulted in a keepsake genealogy book that will long be remembered. Known for her remarkable memory, Lavonne knew names and dates at the top of her head. Besides sharing her knowledge of family events, Lavonne also had a fascination for coincidences in random numbers and dates. She enjoyed and looked forward to family gatherings with her grandchildren, big meals followed by cake or pie and hours playing board games and card games. Macular degeneration eventually claimed her eyesight and on November 30, 2020, after spending the entire afternoon with her four children, Lavonne peacefully died at the age of 96. Lavonne is survived by daughters: Clarice Gregg of Windom, Sheila (Robert) Paulson of Darwin, Nancy (Paul) Schoborg of Delano; son: Kevin (Linda) Fett of Trimont and exchange student Huisyen (Huey) Erdogmus of Istanbul,Turkey; twelve grandchildren: Kenneth Stahl; Jeffrey (Phouang) Stahl, Chad (Michelle) Paulson, Bryan (Heidi) Paulson, Angela (Jeremy) Kurth, Andrew (Shawna) Paulson, Kelly (Steven) Brouwer, Joshua Schoborg, Christopher Fett, Shane (Lisa) Fett, Ryan (Emily) Fett and Nicholas (Jessica) Fett; five step-grandchildren: Bernard (Ophelia) Schoborg, Kristina McElroy, Rebecca Chirhart, Shawn (Christopher) Borgert and Andrea (Kurt) Zniewski; twenty-seven great-grandchildren: Mikayla, Tori, Jasmine, Mariah, Benjamin, Aliyah, Nariah, Sophia, Madilyn, Grady, Gunner, Isaac, Nolan, Hallie, Joanna, Jenna, Landon, Henry, Lily, Elliott, Augustus, Grant, Sawyer, Aden, Ava, Elsie and Conner; one great-great-grandson: Asher; 21 step great-grandchildren; 10 step great-great-grandchildren; brother Harlan Olson and sister-in-law: Avis Fett. Lavonne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Francis; sister Shirley Overaas; sisters-in-law Eileen Olson, Adele (Elmer) Salzwedel; brothers-in-law: LaVerne (Doris) Fett, Goldman (Donna) Fett, Calvin Fett; sons-in-laws: Robert Stahl, Delmyr Gregg; granddaughter-in-law Tammy Stahl. With her love of making sense with random numbers, Lavonne would have enjoyed a couple of last and final number matches. Her time of death was 11:20 and her husband's birthday was 11-20, and they both reached the age of 96.
