A Celebration of Life Service to honor the life and legacy of LaVonne Witt, age 96, of Storden, will be held Saturday, February 1st, at 11:00 AM with a time of visitation and gathering from 9:30 – 11:00 AM, at Bethany Lutheran church in Storden with Pastor Steve Bliss officiating. Burial will be at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in Storden.

LaVonne passed away peacefully on January 23rd, 2025 at the Good Samaritan Society in Westbrook.

LaVonne Norma (Wendland) Witt was born on March 21, 1928, at the Palmer Bush Farm in Germantown township to Walter and Selma (Sally) Boelter Wendland. She was baptized and confirmed at the Germantown Lutheran Church, Jeffers, Minnesota.

She attended first grade at the age of five at District 44 Country School in Germantown through eighth grade. Her education continued in Jeffers and she graduated from Lamberton High School in the class of 1945. Immediately following graduation, she started working at the First State Bank of Storden and worked there for nine and half years.

On October 17, 1953, LaVonne was united in marriage to Emmett Donald Witt at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers. Their marriage was blessed with four children. Theresa, Gregory, Bradley, and Randall. In 1956 they purchased the grocery and dry good store in Storden and remained in business until closing the store in 1979. LaVonne was the secretary/bookkeeper for Storden and later Storden-Jeffers schools from 1970-1997. Many appreciated her "administrative expertise". She had a special connection with whom she met, young and old.

LaVonne was a dedicated, life-long member of Bethany Lutheran Church where she enjoyed Ladies Aide, Sewing Circle and was the organist for many years. She was also an active member of the Herbert-Reese American Legion Auxiliary of Storden.

LaVonne was active in her community serving as election judge, volunteering at the local thrift shop, and other activities. Earlier years Emmett and LaVonne enjoyed dancing, bowling, traveling including annual fishing trips to the Alexandria area. They were avid supporters of their children's sporting events, always cheering from the sidelines. Music brought her great joy as she frequently played the organ for family and friends. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren loved coming to Storden for visits and scooter rides.

LaVonne is survived by her children: Theresa (Craig) Jacobson of Wanamingo, Gregory (Jean) Witt of Hutchinson, Bradley Witt of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Randall (Lisa) Witt of Hutchinson; nine grandchildren: Heidi Peterson, Stephanie (Justin) Schaefer, Gretchen (Alex) Haggerty, Elizabeth Montes, Katie (Jesse) Roberts, Carrie Witt, Brayden (Anne) Witt, Julia Witt, Sawyer (Makenna) Witt; Fifteen great-grandchildren: Maya and Hattie Peterson, Nora, Crosby and Oaklyn Schaefer, Alberto, Anthony, and Adrian Montes, Corrine and Margot Dittrich, Evelyn and Eivin Roberts, Oliver Witt, Eva and Emmett Witt; sister-in-law: Rosemary Wendland; as well as many other relatives and friends.

LaVonne is preceded in death by her husband: Emmett, grandson: Tulley Witt, parents: Walter and Sally Wendland, three brothers: Orville, Lowell, and Dale Wendland.

LaVonne held a strong passion for her family and friends. Always the mischievous one, her sense of humor and strong faith in God led to an abundant life.
