Leanna Belle Lundquist was born in Estherville, Iowa on February 5, 1939, the last of eleven children of Edna Mae (Welch) Smith and Frank Lester Smith. She lived on Diamond Lake farm until she was three weeks old and then moved across the state border to the Pete Pletz farm in Minnesota. When she was eight years old, her family moved to the John Dahl farm on the Minnesota-Iowa border, on the Minnesota side, and lived there until she married Kermit Lundquist. Six children were born to the union, Wayne, Travis, Jack, Bruce, Valerie, and Cindy. The couple lived in St. Paul, MN; Milford, IA; Lake Park, IA; and then moved to South Dakota, where Leanna continued to reside for forty one years. During this time, she was very involved in her church as a member of the Altar Guild, Chairperson for funeral committee and worked on many sewing and crocheting projects. Her marriage was dissolved in 1996, and she moved to southern Minnesota in 2000 and worked in a bakery until she retired. At the age of 62, she received her diploma and took on the responsibility of being the family historian.
On Wednesday, September 26, 2018, Leanna passed away at the Lakeview Methodist Healthcare Center in Fairmont at the age of 79 years.
Leanna is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sisters, a grandson-in-law, and a great-granddaughter.
She is survived by her children Wayne (Peggy); Travis (Jeanette), Jack (Denise), Bruce (Deb), Valerie and Cindy; eleven grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews; and special friends Marilyn and Kerri.
