Elmer "Bud" Leroy Florine was born on May 9, 1921, to Elmer and Esther (Magnuson) Florine in Carthage, SD. He was baptized and later confirmed at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carthage, SD. Bud attended Miner County country elementary school, and he graduated from Carthage High School in 1939. Bud furthered his education at Brown Institute of Broadcasting, Minneapolis, MN. On October 2, 1948, Bud was united in marriage to Bette June (Gerrish) Florine, and they had four children; Jim, Janet, Linda, and Heather. Early in his career, Bud was an on-air advertisement singer and skit player for KSTP radio. He also sang with orchestras in nightclubs in Minneapolis and Chicago. He returned to Minnesota where he fell in love with Bette and built a rich life around family, friends, and a 40-year career as a cattle buyer. Bud loved God deeply, and his family dearly. He enjoyed life, and he loved to have fun. He sang in many church choirs and at weddings, funerals, and other special gatherings. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and in his later years he developed a passion for gardening, especially his tomatoes. He also enjoyed dancing, reading Western novels, working crossword puzzles, traveling (especially to Hawaii and Arizona!), and playing a hot game of bridge or 500. Bud loved all kinds of sports, and he was a long-standing member of the Jackson Golf Club. He seldom missed an opportunity to watch a Twins game, a Vikings game, a horse race, or a golf match. Bud frequently expressed deep gratitude for the loving care he received from the wonderful staff at Good Samaritan in Jackson, Mountain Lake, and Windom. Bud is survived by his children; Jim (Bonnie) Florine of Deer River, Janet (Kent) Johnson of Deer River, Linda (Paul) Roggow of Jackson, and Heather (Craig) Peterson of Minneapolis; four grandchildren, Brielle (Josh) Thurmer, Brendan (Hatty) Roggow, Sarah Jean Johnson, and Megan Johnson; five great-grandchildren, Bodi Roggow, Bennett Roggow, Jett Thurmer, Reese Thurmer, and Rylee Thurmer; one sister, Marianne (Glenn) Anderson of Houlton, WI; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bette; and three siblings, Donald Florine, Clare Florine, and Elaine Lindsay.
