Loie Ralph Grandprey was born on December 16th, 1930 in Owatonna, Minnesota to the late Lloyd Middaugh and Eva Loretta (Oches) Grandprey. He was baptized at the Associated Church in Owatonna and later confirmed in that same church. Loie received his early education at the District 48 rural school in Meriden, Minnesota and later attended Owatonna High School graduating in the Class of 1948. He furthered his education at Mankato State Teachers College and then the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado where he received a master's degree in Education. On August 22nd, 1954, Loie was united in marriage to Roxie Marie Smith at the First Baptist Church in Mankato, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with three children; Lee, Jay, and Susan. In 1952, Loie began his teaching career in Decorah, Iowa and taught for two years before moving to Windom. Along with teaching industrial arts in Windom, Loie was also the varsity wrestling coach until 1975. In 1985, he retired from teaching, started Grandprey Appraisal Services, and continued the business for twenty-seven years until retiring in 2012. Roxie passed away on May 6th, 2015 at their home in Windom. After her death, Loie continued to live in Windom and entered hospice care in June of 2018. Loie passed away on Saturday morning, May 18th, 2019 and peacefully went to heaven at the age of 88 years old. In his earlier years, Loie was a member of the Associated Church in Owatonna where he was a member of the Boy's Club. He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Windom; he was a member of the choir and a trustee for many years along with being an elder. Loie was also a life member of the Industrial Technology Association, the National Education Association, the Retired Teachers Association of Minnesota, the Planning and Zoning Board in Windom, the Windom Area High School Sports Hall of Fame, and the Windom Golf Course from 1956 until the time of his passing. Loie had many enjoyments in his life which included golfing, playing his trumpet, his English Springer Spaniels, and, most of all, spending time with his friends and family - especially his four granddaughters; Emily, Brianna, Lexi and Rachel. He will be remembered for his care and compassion towards others, his love of his students, his sense of humor, his integrity, and his acceptance of others for who they were. Loie is survived by his three children; Lee Grandprey and his wife, Jan, of San Diego, CA; Jay Grandprey of Windom, MN; Susan Grandprey Anundson and her husband, David, of Maple Grove, MN; four granddaughters, Emily Grandprey (27) of Auburn, AL; Brianna Grandprey (24) of Auburn, AL; Lexi Anundson (22) of Tempe, AZ; Rachel Anundson (18) of Maple Grove, MN; and many more friends and relatives. Loie is preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Betty Grandprey; wife, Roxie Grandprey; and twin brother, Lloyd O. Grandprey.
