Obituary

Lois Evelyn Castledine was born on July 21, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Edgar Frederick and Evelyn Francis (Martin) Goetz. She received her education at the Nettlehorst Grade School and graduated From Senn High School at the age of 16. Lois was baptized in Chicago and confirmed as an adult at the American Lutheran Church in Windom. Lois and Doc met at the church he attended in Chicago where Lois' mother was the choir director and organist. They were united in marriage on February 25, 1949, in Chicago. This marriage was blessed with three children, Judy, Lynne and David. Doc and Lois lived in Winona for a short time before making their home in Windom. Through the years, Lois was dedicated wife and mother who worked for Vic Faust in the summers in the county assessor office. Lois was very active in her community as a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir, member of her church circle, a Bethel Bible class teacher, a Mrs. Jaycees, Girl Scout Leader and trainer and a Welcome Wagon Lady. In 1972, Lois committed her life to Jesus as her Lord and Savior. This commitment not only changed Lois' life; she impacted the lives of countless others through the sharing of her faith. Lois' door was always open, and the coffee pot was always full. Her large dining room table was full on Thursdays where she led a Bible Study for thirty-four years. She was always available for anyone in need. In 2006, Lois suffered a debilitating stroke which left her without the use of her right arm and leg leaving her confined to a wheelchair. She taught herself how to use her left hand and with therapy, learned many tasks to help her be somewhat self-sufficient. Lois inspired many with her perseverance. In 2007, Lois became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom where she lived until passing away on Monday evening, November 4, 2019 at the age of 88 years. Lois is survived by her three children, Judy (Warren) Moe of Burnsville, Lynne Kessler of Windom and David Castledine of St. Paul; three grandchildren, Silas Eaton of Stevens Point, WI, Daniel Eaton of Los Angeles, CA, and Leah Eaton of Windom; one great-granddaughter, Laci Eaton of Windom; and other relatives and friends. Lois is preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, Ken Butler; husband, Charles (C.O.) "Doc" Castledine (11-6-2016); son-in-law, Paul Kessler; and one brother, Charles Goetz.
