Lois Lu Jean Shelstad was born on November 14, 1932 in Madison, Minnesota to the late Melvin Richard and Manty Johnson. She received her schooling in country school in Madison.
On June 28, 1950, Lois was united in marriage to Harold Edward Shelstad in Madison. After marriage, they lived in Alaska while Harold was in the military. They then moved to Illinois and then back to Minnesota where they lived in several places throughout Minnesota until moving to Windom in the early 1970's where Lois worked at the Windom Hospital in laundry services. After forty-five years in Windom, Lois and Harold moved to Fairmont to be closer to family. She then moved to Woodland Manor in Fairmont before becoming a resident at the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center where Lois passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at the age of 85 years.
Lois was a longtime member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Bergen and a proud member of AA for many years. She had many enjoyments in life which included baking, canning, flower gardening, working around the hobby farm, bird watching, watching the moon come up, picking strawberries at Schumacher's and most of all, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Her devoted family includes her husband, Harold of Fairmont; five children, Lyndon Shelstad of Fairmont; David (Laurita) Shelstad of Fairmont; Gail (Mike) Mann of West Virginia; Karen Shelstad of Fairmont and Raymond Shelstad of Fairmont; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
