Loren Hammer was born on August 6, 1933 in Bergen, Minnesota to the late Peder and Helma (Johnson) Hammer. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Bergen. Loren received his early education in country school and graduated from Windom High School, Class of 1951.
On August 10, 1952, Loren was united in marriage to Evelyn Schmidt at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers. After marriage, Loren and Evelyn farmed in the Bergen area. Loren and Evelyn started Hammer's New & Used that eventually became what is now known as Hammer's Furniture and Floor Covering. They ran this business for many years and formed many friendships until retiring in 1995. Through the years, Loren had many enjoyments in life which included traveling to Branson and Florida; singing in church and with the Windom Chordhustlers. Music was a big part of his life. He enjoyed golfing and attending his children and grandchildrens concerts and sporting events. But, most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Loren's health had been declining and he was recently placed in hospice care at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington where he passed away on Thursday evening, November 29, 2018, at the age of 85 years.
Loren is survived by four children, Sheryl (Dave) Eyberg of Windom; Debra (Ken) Hoffmann of Windom; Jody (Tom) Voth of Windom; Jill (Troy) Stevens of Willmar; nine grandchildren, Jason (Lisa) Eyberg; Jennie (Nick) Schader; Anna (Mariah) Hoffmann; Brianne (Matt) Miller; Daniel Hoffmann; Sam Voth, Laura (Duke) Krumwiede; Shelby Stevens and Emma Stevens: eleven great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Logan Eyberg; Lena Hofflynn; Braelyn, Addilyn and Noah Schader; Graham, Milo, Calvin and Eloise Miller; and Jersey Krumwiede. He is also survived by three sisters, Janice Nelson, Phyllis (Roger) Thor and Donna (Ron) Ihrke.
Loren is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn Hammer; great-grandchild, Reid Eyberg; and brother-in-law, Myron Nelson.
