A Celebration of Life Service to honor the life and legacy of Loren Marschel, age 83, of Okabena, will be held Friday, March 14th at 10:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Okabena.

A visitation for Loren will be held on Thursday, March 13th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at at St. John's Lutheran Church in Okabena. Visitation will continue on Friday, March 14th at St. John's Lutheran Church in Okabena for one hour prior to the service, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. The service will be live streamed on the church's YouTube Channel.

Loren August Marschel was born on July 22, 1941, in Watertown, Minnesota to August and Helen (Vergin) Marschel. He was baptized on August 10, 1941, at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford, MN and was later confirmed at the same church on April 3, 1955. Loren received his education from Rockford High School graduating in the class of 1959. He continued his education at the University of Minnesota graduating in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard in 1959 and was honorably discharged in 1965.

On August 25, 1962, Loren was united in marriage to Judith Bauermeister at St. John's Church in Corcoran, MN. This union blessed the couple with two children: Ron and Pamela.

Loren taught at the Okabena High School, Heron Lake/ Okabena High School, Heron Lake/ Okabena/Lakefield High School for 33 years. He taught Health, Phy ed and Social Studies. He was the head boys' basketball coach for 25 years, head football coach for 4 years and baseball head coach and assistant coach for numerous years. Loren also was the athletic director for 29 years.

He was a long-time member of St. John' s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Okabena. Faith was very important to Loren. He was a chairman for 12 years, and elder for 4 years and on the cemetery board for 6 years.

Loren had many accomplishments in his life. He was elected to the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2008 and was named to the All-State Football in 1958.

He had many hobbies such as hunting, fishing, playing cards, reading, puzzles, watching sports and listening to Country Western music.

Loren and Judy treasured their annual trips to the family cabin on Lake Mille Lacs spending time with their children, grandchildren, family and friends.

On March 7, 2025, Loren passed away peacefully at the Worthington Medical Center in Worthington, MN at the age of 83.

Left to cherish his everlasting memory is his wife of 62 years, Judith of Okabena; son, Ron (Karen) Marschel of Pierz; daughter, Pamela (Jon) Thaemlitz of Lakefield; four grandchildren, Brock (Chelsey) Thaemlitz, Austen Marschel, Joshua (Allison) Thaemlitz, Kiah (Sam McPhillips) Marschel; seven great grandchildren, Kylie, Kinsley, Kendyl, Karson, Ellie, Clayton, Jennings; brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard (Gloria) Marschel, Kevin (Paulette) Marschel; sisters, Darlene Bechtold, Sandra Holan; sister-in-law, Evie Bauermeister; brother-in-law, Al Bergie; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceded him in death are his parents, August and Helen Marschel, father and mother in-law, Fred and Gertrude Bauermeister, brothers and sisters-in-law, Harlan Bechtold, Vernon and Helen Bauermeister, Lucille and Alvin Cook, Myrtle and Cecil Gelle, Ruth and Harold Mahler, Fritz and Joy Bauermeister, Howie Bauermeister, Marian and Gaylord Faue, Lois and Maynard Manzke.
