Obituary

Loretta Jackson passed away at her home on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at the age of 77, surrounded by her children. Loretta Ann (Hicks) Jackson was born on March 27, 1944, to the late, Delbert and Eulalia (Benz) Hicks in Hendricks, MN. She grew up in White, SD, where she was baptized in the First Baptist Church. She attended country school in the rural White area and graduated from White High School in 1962. On June 22, 1963, Loretta married Donald Basil Jackson. After marriage Loretta and Don moved to Windom MN, with a brief move to Jackson, MN before settling back in Windom, MN. The couple was married for 57 years, when Don passed away on November 21, 2020. The marriage was blessed with three children, Michael, Lori, and Lance. Loretta dedicated her life to her Lord, and to her family as a homemaker, caring for her husband and children and supporting them in their numerous activities, which continued on to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Loretta also owned a home interior business for more than twenty years, hanging wallpaper, making, and sewing drapes. Later in life, Loretta worked at Winfair Elementary School in food service, worked seasonally at Minntex Fruit, and Hammer's Furniture. Loretta was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Windom. She had a Servants Heart, and took on leadership roles in the Christian Women's Club and Bible Studies. She served as a Deaconess, Awana leader, church hostess, Sunday school and release time teacher. Loretta was recipient of the Mayor's Medal of Honor/ Good Neighbor Award. She was also active in Relay for Life, The Red Hatters, and volunteered with hospice. And for a number of years she painted advertising signs on the wooden ballpark fence at Island Park. Loretta is survived by her children, Michael Jackson of Windom; Lori (Larry) Diedrich of Brookings, SD; and Lance (Chris) Jackson of Windom; six grandchildren; Taylor (Emily) Rymerson, Ashley Jackson, Stephanie (Aaron) Kozlowski, Tanner Rymerson, Emily Jackson, Halle Jackson, and two great-grandchildren; Kinley and Kamiela Rymerson; A twin brother, David (Verna) Hicks of White, SD; and sister, Phyllis Hemmer from Cambridge MN. Loretta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Jackson; brothers, Wayne, Orlin, Russell and Doyle Hicks; and sisters Verona Miller and Lucille Peters.
