Obituary

A Celebration of Life Service to honor the life and legacy of Lorretta Carter of Jeffers will be held Saturday, October 25th at 11:00 am at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers MN. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the church prior to the service with burial at the Jeffers Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Loretta's name are preferred.

Lorretta Irene Carter passed away on October 17, 2025, at The Good Samaritan Society in Westbrook, MN. Lorretta was born on March 30, 1930, the day after her twin, Leroy, to Gerhard and Olga (Steinhauser) Oeltjenbruns in Carson Township near Mountain Lake, MN.

Lorretta leaves behind a loving family: daughters Carmen (Butch) Narveson of Chatfield, MN, Carol Hendrickson of Golden Valley, MN, Christine (Dana) Schmitz of Okabena, MN, Charlene (Kevin) Graff of Lamberton, MN, and Corliss Carter of Meier Grove, MN; brother, Walter and wife Margareta Oeltjenbruns; sister-in-law, Claudette Carter; and many nieces and nephews. She was deeply loved by her ten grandchildren and her sixteen great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.

Lorretta attended country school at 80 E Cottonwood County until eighth grade. Because she was needed on the farm, she completed her high school diploma through a correspondence course. She was lucky enough to grow up on a farm neighboring many of her cousins and remained lifelong friends with three of these cousins.

Lorretta married Jack Carter in 1954 and was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life such as gardening, fishing, sewing, needlework, playing cards, bridge, dancing with Jack, Ladies Aid, and other church activities. She and Jack fostered children and frequently visited and helped their children and grandchildren. They found peace and contentment in each other's company and their bond was a testament to a Christian life well-lived and love well-shared. They were happily married for 70 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her parents; brothers, Arnold and wife Lorraine, Leroy and wife Evaline, Richard and wife Lois, Dennis and wife Avis; and parents-in-law Harry and Enid Carter.

Lorretta was generous and readily shared her numerous talents with those around her. She valued time spent with friends and family. Blessed be the memory of Lorretta.
