Louise
Hecker
Jan 4, 1928 — Sep 20, 2022
Louise Ione (Antonson) Hecker was born on January 4, 1928, in Windom, Minnesota to the late Gustav and Hulda (Robe) Antonson. She attended and graduated from Windom High School. Following high school, Louise graduated with a teaching degree and began teaching 45 fourth and fifth graders in a country school. She loved to talk about her years teaching.
Louise was united in marriage to Norman "Norm" Hecker on June 10, 1951, in the United Methodist Church in Heron Lake. The marriage was blessed with three children: Barbara "Barb", Jerald "Jerry", and Julie. Norm and Louise lived in Heron Lake and raised their family. Louise loved being a mother with all the enjoyments children bring, and she enjoyed cooking and baking. Through the years, she also helped Norm in his businesses.
During her life, Louise dedicated much of her time volunteering in activities and events with her church and in the Heron Lake community. Over the years, she was active with the United Methodist Women's Group, taught Sunday School and was instrumental in organizing many of the church suppers. She was a long-time member of Eastern Star. As a senior citizen, she delivered Meals on Wheels and helped coordinate senior defensive driving classes. In 2009, Louise was presented with the Jackson County Outstanding Senior Citizen award and enjoyed the ceremonies at the Jackson County Fair and the Minnesota State Fair. Further, she was proud to be a Grand Marshal of the Blue Heron Days Parade in Heron Lake in 2021.
On December 2, 2021, Louise flew to Florida to spend time with her daughter, Barb, and Barb's husband, Dan, in Merritt Island. She enjoyed the coastal life, going to church every Sunday, followed by breakfast at various restaurants, riding in the golf cart while looking at alligators and other Florida wildlife, and watching rockets take off from the backyard. Every morning she looked out the window and said, "It's a beautiful day."
The beginning of September, Louise's health declined. She remained home under Hospice Care and passed away with Barb at her side on Tuesday, September 20th.
Left to cherish Louise's memory are her daughter, Barbara (Daniel) Young of Merritt Island, FL; grandchildren, Kylee and her fiancé, Drew Daneau, Sean, and Kenneth; and many other relatives and friends.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Hecker; son, Jerald; infant daughter, Julie; parents; and two brothers, Kenneth and Harold.
Blessed by the memory of Louise Hecker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Heron Lake Caring Connection.
