A Celebration of Life Service for Lowell James Hansen, age 92, of Jackson, will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 11:00 AM at The United Methodist Church in Jackson with Pastor Russ Steele officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

A time of visitation and gathering will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 9:30 – 11:00 AM, at The United Methodist Church in Jackson.

Lowell James Hansen was born on February 24, 1932 in Jackson, MN. Son of Roy and Frances Hansen, Lowell grew up on the family farm in Middletown Township. He was born the sixth of 9 children. He graduated from Jackson High School, and spent a year at the University of Minnesota, but the draw to farming was too strong, so he returned to work on the family farm with his dad and brothers. Over the next several decades, they farmed everything from sheep and dairy cattle to feeder cattle along with several hundred acres of corn and beans.

On July 11, 1964, he would marry a beautiful country girl turned city girl and woo her back to the farm. Lowell would love coming in from work to his wife, Carole, and her wonderful home cooked meals every day. She would always make him a cherry pie for Valentine's Day, his favorite. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church and served as the financial secretary for many years.

Lowell was devoted to his love of horses. He rarely missed a horse show and there was no show too far to travel to. Lowell taught his daughters all about farm life and hard work. He so loved his grandchildren and created many special memories with them when they were young during the summers at Cutty's of Okoboji. He was a quiet, private man but always relished in his time with his "Kansas City Girls" and his "Schley tribe".

Lowell Hansen passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at his home.

Lowell is survived by his children Julie Schley (Mike Jacobsma) of Boyden, IA and Laurie (John) Riley, Overland Park, KS. Lowell was also blessed with 6 grandchildren Donny, Ellie, and Garrett Schley, and Kate, Olivia and Sophie Riley, all of whom he loved dearly.

Lowell was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carole, his parents Roy and Frances, his brothers Gordon, Gerald, Harold, Leroy, Larye and sister, Grace.
