Lucy Margaret Lovell was born February 6, 1941 to Arnold and Frieda (Rotzoll) Schaper in Pipestone, MN. She grew up on the family farm south east of Holland, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Woodstock, MN. She attended country school district #7 and #41 through the 8th grade and then attended high school in Pipestone, MN graduating in 1959. Lucy worked at the Pipestone Star Newspaper for a year and on April 16, 1960 she married Darwin Eugene Lovell in Fulda, MN. They were blessed with 3 children, Pamela, Patricia and Eugene. They lived in various places and settled in the Storden area in 1966. Lucy worked for Fingerhut Corp in Windom for 5 years as a sewing machine operator and later worked for Arnold Berntson on their egg laying operation.
They moved into Storden in 1987 and Lucy did custodial work for different business places in Storden. She was a member of Amo Lutheran Church, where she and Darwin were custodians for many years. She was also a member of the WELCA group and was active in making mission quilts and taught Sunday school for a number of years. She enjoyed reading, sewing, family history, bowling and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and attending their many school and church activities. Darwin and Lucy worked for the Worthington Daily Globe delivering newspapers and they also did a lot of snow blowing together.
In 1999 Lucy had the opportunity to go to Germany with her sisters to see the birthplace of their father and meet an aging Uncle & Aunt and 17 cousins. She had always treasured the memories of this trip.
Lucy is survived by her husband Darwin of 59 years. Her children Pam (Bob) Nelson of Milbank, S.D, Pat Pederson of Storden, MN and Gene (Shelley) Lovell of Windom, MN; Eight grandchildren, Steven Nelson, Jeremy (Emily) Nelson, Randon, Katelyn (Tony Phaley) & Trevor (Ramsey Piotter) Pederson and Makenzie (Derick) Hall, Collin (Leah) and Kobe Lovell; great grandchildren, Pyper Nelson and Gabby Nelson; sisters Dorothy Doppenberg of Jackson, MN and Irma (Dale) Grimnitz of Rosemount, MN. Cousin Arlene Welgraven of Sioux Falls, S.D, and numerous cousins in Germany. She was preceded in death by her brother Walter in 2004 and her parents and grandparents.
