Marian M Torkelson was born on March 5, 1934, to John and Mabel (Aeling) Weiland, in Heron Lake, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church of Heron Lake. Throughout her life, Marian was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Windom and worked in various ways to serve her spiritual community. She attended Windom Area High School and graduated with the class of 1952. Marian worked in the hospitality industry as a chef. She worked for many years in the family business, Tork's Café, in Windom. Before retiring in 2004, she worked for 11 years at Windom Area Hospital. On December 6, 1956, Marian was united in marriage to Donald Joseph Torkelson. The marriage was blessed with four children, Michael, Susan, Peggy and Sally. Marian enjoyed her eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Marian was active in the community as a member of the Sons of Norway, American Legion Auxiliary, and Red Hatters, and was a volunteer at the Cottonwood County Fair. She especially enjoyed her coffee group at Hardees and McDonalds. Marian Torkelson, 88, of Windom, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at the Good Samaritan Society Sogge Memorial, on Monday, May 2, 2022. Left to cherish Marian's memory are her children, Susan (Ron) Visker of Windom, Peggy (Dave) Rinkenberger of Morris, MN, and Sally (Blaine) Larson of Windom; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mavis Loken of Oklahoma; and family and friends. Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Torkelson; son, Michael Torkelson; parents, John and Mabel Weiland; and brother, Robert Weiland. Blessed be the memory of Marian Torkelson. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 7th, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Windom with Reverend Mike McInnis officiating. Burial will follow at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Windom. A time of gathering and visitation will be held on Sat, May 7th from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Windom. During this time coffee and donuts will be served. The Celebration of Life Service will be live streamed on the First United Methodist Church Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Cottonwood County Agriculture Society (Cottonwood County Fair) or the First United Methodist Church in Windom.
