A Celebration of Life Service to honor the life and legacy of Marie McRunnel, age 88, of Mountain Lake, formerly of Windom, will be held Thursday, June 11, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Windom, with a time of visitation and gathering from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Windom.

Marie Barbara Jean Gunder McRunnel age 88 of Mt Lake, MN formerly of Windom, MN, entered heaven's gates on Sunday, May 31,2026.

She was born July 16, 1937 in Windom MN to her parents Gearald and Wauneta Wooliver Gunder. She was the oldest of 5 children. Her siblings included; Ronald, Kenneth, Gladys and Debra. Their home was filled with music and laughter. Times were tough in the world but they continued in life to make their home a place that was safe and full of love.

Marie attended Windom public schools and graduated from high school in 1956. She met Garold McRunnel and in October 1959 they were married. They were married almost 60 years. Five children were born into this marriage, Susan Kay, Terry Lee, Robyn Rae, Steven Mark and Heidi Marie. Each child with their own determination and temperament.

Marie worked with her mother cleaning hotel rooms and spent time working at Finger Hut. She then decided to become a FT homemaker and raise her children. After the youngest was in school, Marie and Mac took on the responsibility of the custodian at the First Baptist Church in Windom. She so enjoyed this job, Marie served in different roles in the church, she worked in the kitchen during special programs, including VBS and helped with preparing and serving meals Her largest accomplishment was serving in the AWANA program as an AWANA leader for 35 years. Mac and Marie were also the area chairpersons for the Good News Club chapter in SW Minnesota. This role allowed them to teach children about Jesus.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Gearald and Wauneta Gunder, her brothers, Ronald, Kenneth and sister Gladys. Also, her husband, Mac and her son Terry. Her parents-in-law, Edward and Viola McRunnel and four brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law.

Left to carry on her memory are her children; Susan (Calvin), Mt Lake, MN, Robyn (Tony), Harrisburg, SD Steven (Kim) Minneapolis, MN and Heidi, Bellville, TX. Seven grandchildren; Erin, Krystal (Adrian), Becky (Kevin), Renae, Adam (Mari), Micah (Alyssa) and Grace. Nine great grandchildren; Sydney, Stella, Avery, Allison, Jazzlyn, Freija, Beatrice, Grayson and Melody. One sister, Debra Loen and sister-in-law Lois Seeman, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
