Marilyn "Frenchy" Lou Flatgard was born on April 25, 1936 in Storden, Minnesota to the late Louie Aron and Hazel (Amsden) French. She grew up on a farm in Storden received her education there, graduating in the Class of 1954. Marilyn then moved to Windom with a friend and got a one-bedroom apartment and worked at the Silver Café until taking a job with the telephone company.
Marilyn was united in marriage to Merlin "Johnny" Flatgard on July 26, 1957 at the American Lutheran Church in Windom. After marriage, they made their home in Windom and Marilyn worked at TORO for twenty-nine years until retiring in 1990. After retiring, Marilyn and Johnny enjoyed wintering in Texas for many years. Johnny passed away on January 1, 2018. After his death, Marilyn continued to live in Windom until becoming a resident of the Lakeview Assisted Living in Heron Lake. On July22, 2020, Marilyn became suddenly ill and was taken to Windom Area Health where she passed away at the age of 84 years.
Marilyn was a longtime member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom the Windom Country Club and a Red Hatter. She was also a volunteer at the Cottonwood County Historical Society. Marilyn had many enjoyments in life which included golfing, traveling, reading, going to the casinos, bowling, playing cards, having coffee around town and spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marilyn is survived by one son, Kory (Angel) Flatgard of Windom; daughter, Theresa (Dale) Breuer of Estherville, IA; five grandchildren, Morgan (Skyler) Blumberg of Heron Lake; Aaron (Leah) Flatgard of Windom; K.C. Flatgard of Windom; Benjamin Breuer of Des Moines, IA; Tanner Breuer of Carol, IA; six great-grandchildren; Jordan, Landon, Jude, Aylen, Killian and Erika; and several nieces and nephews.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Kelly Flatgard and son, Kurt Flatgard.
