Obituary

Marjorie June Basinger was born in Sioux City, IA on October 23, 1930, to Robert Mueller and Gertrude Mueller. Her father's work as a music teacher moved the family to several cities. Some of the many places included Sioux City IA Wilmington WV, Eveleth, MN, and Minneapolis, MN. Marjorie had many accomplishments as a young woman, one of which is she won the title of Miss Teen Minneapolis in 1948 through an essay writing contest. She was awarded a trip to New York City and a stay at the famed Waldorf Astoria Hotel. She was also a dancer for the Aqua Darlings who performed for the famous Minneapolis Aquatennial celebrations. It was while living in Minneapolis and attending classes at the University of Minnesota, that she met and married the love of her life, soon to be Dr. Harold Basinger. After a year internship in Williamsport, PA for Harold's residency, she moved with her husband, son Mark, and daughter Robin to Windom, MN where she made her home and her life raising 6 children. Marjorie played an active role in her community. She was involved in several community theater productions, she spearheaded an Environmental Education Emphasis program and won a Environmental Quality Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, she was a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization, and was active in the First United Methodist Church and later the Mt. Lake Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. Marjorie's passions included history, reading (particularly the Bible), leading bible studies, travel, dance, theater, art, and music. Marjorie passed away at home in Windom, MN, in the loving presence of family, following a long illness at the age of 90 years. She is survived by her sisters Carolyn Jean Carlson, and Pamela Ann Allen; her husband Dr Harold P. Basinger, son Steven (Kristin) Basinger, daughters Robin (Duwayne) Johnson, Carolyn (Jon) Freeman, Meredith Basinger; grandchildren Karin Basinger, Tyler Johnson, Erin Jacobson, Nathan Basinger, Jennifer Basinger, Hannah Johnson, and Rachael Basinger; and 18 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents Robert and Gertrude Mueller, her son Mark Basinger, her daughter Andrea Basinger, her grandson Andrew Basinger, and twin great-grandchildren, Josiah & Joshua Johnson.
