A Celebration of Life Visitation honoring the life and legacy of Marleen Soleta, age 77, of Windom and formerly of Heron Lake, will take place on Friday, April 24th from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Windom. Following the visitation, burial will be held at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Okabena.
Everyone attending the visitation is encouraged to wear Minnesota Sports Team apparel.
Memorials are preferred in Marleen's name to the Heron Lake-Okabena Caring Connections-PO Box 164 Heron Lake, MN 56137.
Marleen Soleta was born on April 3, 1949, in Windom, Minnesota, to the late Francis "Fred" and Bernice Hewitt. She was baptized and confirmed at the American Lutheran Church in Windom.
Marleen attended Windom Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1967. Following her graduation, Marleen began working at Fingerhut, where she worked until 1974. On March 9, 1974, Marleen married Morris "Fred" Soleta. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Jason and Tanya, forming a loving family together.
After her marriage, Marleen began working at Lakeview Assisted Living in Heron Lake, where she dedicated 30 years of service to her retirement. Her commitment to care and compassion was evident throughout her career, positively impacting those she worked with and the neighbors she served.
Fred passed away on December 26, 2010. After his death, Marleen remained on the farm outside of Heron Lake. She later met Dennis Amundson and moved to Windom a few years ago. Marleen enjoyed her winters in Mission, Texas and it was there that she passed away suddenly on April 5, 2026, at the Mission Regional Medical Center in Mission, Texas at the age of 77.
Marleen will be remembered for her generosity, thoughtfulness, and active involvement in local charities. She contributed to organizations such as the Jackson County Relay for Life and Heron Lake-Okabena Caring Connections and donated many items to fundraisers over the years.
She enjoyed winters in Texas, summers at Cutty's Okoboji Resort, attending concerts, road trips and vacations with Tanya, assisting Dennis with karaoke, spending time with Dennis's family, hosting numerous family gatherings, and cheering for all Minnesota sports. Her spirit and dedication to her loved ones and community leave a lasting legacy.
Marleen is survived by her two children, Jason Soleta of Heron Lake; Tanya (Kayla Flynn) Soleta of Eagan; husband, Dennis Amundson of Windom; two sisters, Jean (Nate) Fast of Mountain Lake; Betty (Ron) Stahl of Windom; brother-in-law, Darwin (Jody) Soleta of Okabena; sister-in-law, Mary Hewett of Windom and several nieces, nephews, cousins and Godchildren.
Marleen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred Soleta; and four brothers, Edward and Larry Hewett, and Ray and Rodney Ring.
