Marvin William Liepold was born on February 26, 1935, in Weimer Township, Jackson County, Minnesota to the late Leo and Rose (Freking) Liepold. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary School and graduated from Heron Lake High School in the Class of 1953. Marvin enlisted in the United States Army in 1958 and was stationed in Germany until being honorably discharged in 1960. He then was in the Army Reserves for four years. On June 17, 1961, Marvin was united in marriage to Anne Lusk at Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Jackson. Marvin farmed and formed a partnership for many years with his brother, Linus, until his retirement. Marvin was a longtime member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake and was a State Court Trustee of the Catholic Order of Foresters and Chief Ranger of the St. Cyril's Court of Heron Lake. Marvin served as clerk for Weimer Township for 25 years. He served on the county and state 4-H sheep show committees. Marvin was also President of the Jackson County Pork Producers. He was a member of the Senior Citizen Center in Heron Lake where he was past president. Marvin's most outstanding talent was his music. He gave music lessons to many children on both guitar and accordion and entertained at many musical events and truly loved doing it. Marvin will be remembered for being a loving husband of Anne for 59 years and a kind and gentle father to his five children. Marvin had many friends and enjoyed spending time with them. His battle with Alzheimer's made his social life difficult. Even so, he always had a smile ready for anyone he would meet. Recently, Marvin became a resident of the Lakeview Assisted Living in Heron Lake where he passed away peacefully on Friday evening, April 10, 2020, at the age of 85 years. Marvin is survived by his five children and their spouses, Mike (Paula) Liepold of New Prague; Julie (Chad) Nolz of Milbank, SD; Lisa (Scott) Haugen of New Prague; Ted (Lori) Liepold of Arvada, CO; Nancy (Joe) Berg of Little Falls; 12 grandchildren, Chantal (Tyler) McCabe, Thomas Liepold, Caleb Nolz, Isaac Nolz, Jason (Cortney) Haugen, Ryan (Kayla) Haugen, Mara Haugen, Sarah Liepold, David Liepold, Cooper Berg, Madison Berg, and Sydney Berg; three great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Adeline McCabe, Hayden Haugen; two sisters-in-law, Alyce Resch and Nell Liepold; and many nieces and nephews. Marvin is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Janice Bezdicek; one brother, Linus Liepold; three brothers-in-law; and one sister-in-law. A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 16th at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake with Father Pratap officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery in rural Heron Lake
