A Celebration of Life Service to honor the life and legacy of Melvin Grein, age 93, of Lakefield, will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield on Monday, March 17th at 11:00 AM, with a time of visitation and gathering from 10:00-11:00 AM. Military honors will be provided by Swen-Rasmussen American Legion Post 4 of Lakefield. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Lakefield. The service will be livestreamed on the the Immanuel Lutheran Church-Lakefield Facebook page and YouTube channel..

Melvin Henry Grein was born in Lakefield to the late Henry and Lily (Vestweber) Grein on July 25, 1931. He was baptized on August 16, 1931, and confirmed on May 26, 1946, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield. He received his education at Immauel Lutheran Parochial School in Lakefield.

After graduation, Melvin enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in the Korean War, until he was honorably discharged on June 9, 1954. He returned home and farmed for a bit before getting a job at George Wasko Electric and later became a school bus driver.

Melvin was a faithful servant of the Lord. He was a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and served the Church in many ways over the years, being a member of the Board of Trustees and Cemetery Board. Melvin believed in helping others through charitable giving.

Melvin had many hobbies which included riding his bike, riding his scooter, daily coffee at Hage's with his good friends, and tinkering with anything he could get his hands on. He was a member of the VFW in Lakefield and was instrumental in helping the VFW get a liquor license.

Melvin Henry Grein passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society Sogge Memorial in Windom.

Melvin is survived by his sister, Iona Gehrls of Okabena, brother-in-law, Fred Kelly of McMinville, OR, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding him is death are his parents, Henry and Lily Grein; brothers, Arnold Grein, Earl (Mardell) Grein, Vernon (Margaret) Grein, Dale (Barb) Grein; sister, Pearl (Irvin) Swanson; sister-in-law, Caroleen Kelly and brother-in-law, Kelly Gehrls.
