Obituary

Merle R. Lohre was born on September 27, 1944 in Springfield, Minnesota to Elvern and Hannah (Erickson) Lohre. He was baptized and confirmed at Old Westbrook Lutheran Church and received his education in the Storden Public Schools. In his youth, Merle did custom work shelling corn and bailing hay alongside his father and three brothers. Through the years, Merle worked as a farmer, truck driver, and restaurant owner and enjoyed farming the most. In 1966, Merle was drafted into the United States Army and served our country with three different tours in Vietnam. Once Merle was honorably discharged from the Army, he returned to farming. On June 16, 1981, Merle was united in marriage to Audrey Miller in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. After marriage, Merle and Audrey lived in Atwater, MN for years before making Lamberton their forever home. Merle enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. When he wasn't visiting with family and friends or helping people you would find Merle in the garden planting flowers and vegetables or in his boat fishing. For 15 years Merle and Audrey traveled to Arizona for the winter. There they met many people who became lifelong friends. While in Arizona Merle quickly learned the best fishing spots. He knew exactly where to go to catch fish. Merle loved to fish. Christmas was Merle's favorite holiday. He loved decorating for Christmas. He won first place recognition for his elaborate Christmas lights display in Lamberton three times. Merle's ready to help attitude has resulted in the multitude of friends. Merle was always so thoughtful of people he loved when it came time to buy presents. He really put a lot of time into picking out the perfect gift for each person. On Sunday June 21, 2020 Merle passed away at the Valley View Manor in Lamberton, Minnesota at the age of 75.
