A Celebration of Life Service for Milo Holmen, age 101, of Windom, will be held Friday, July 19th at 3:00 PM at The American Lutheran Church in Windom with Pastor Adam Roberts officiating. Burial will be at the Hauges Cemetery in rural Jackson County.

A time of visitation and gathering will be held on Friday, July 19th from 2:00- 3:00 PM at The American Lutheran Church in Windom.

Milo Holmen was born on August 14, 1922, to Severin and Signe (Engen) Holmen. He grew up on the family farm west of Bergen, with four brothers and one sister, Orris, Alvin, Orrin "Dully", Seiford "Si" and Malinda. He was baptized and confirmed at Hauges Lutheran Church, which was a large part of the family's social life and was where he met and married the love of his life, Corrine Erickson. Milo attended Jackson County School through the 8th grade.

On August 31, 1946, Milo was united in marriage to Corrine Erickson at the Hauges Lutheran Church in rural Jackson County, Minnesota. Living on the family farm, Milo and Corrine worked side by side, raising their children, Don, Michael, and Lori, while operating the family farm. In 1967, Milo and his two brothers, Dully and Si, bought Leen Lumber and started Holmen Construction. They built many new homes and repaired and remodeled homes in the area, as well as outside the immediate area. They were very busy and had a good crew of many young men who were just starting out in life. In 1984, they decided to retire, and their business was missed by many.

Through the years, Milo enjoyed Gospel music and was a member of the Bergen Octet, made up of farmers from the area. They sang on many occasions and had great fun together, and they loved singing for many, and mostly for the Lord Jesus Christ. Milo's love of music stayed with him all his life. When Hauges closed in 1969, the family joined The American Lutheran Church in Windom, where Milo sang in the men's chorus and chartered the "Gospelaires".

Milo served on the Board of Directors of the Federal Land Bank for 20 years, which was a wonderful learning experience. Family was always precious to Milo, and he enjoyed spending time with them. They took many trips and enjoyed the life God gave him. In earlier years, he and Corrine went dancing and played cards with a great group of friends. He enjoyed golfing with his brother, Dully. Milo especially enjoyed the land, and when he could help Gareth farm, he was happy to help.

Milo passed away peacefully on Monday, July 15, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society Sogge Memorial in Windom at the age of 101 years.

Milo is survived by his wife of 77 years, Corrine; son, Don (special friend, Penny) Holmen of Spirit Lake and Arizona; Lori (Steve) Seifert of Windom; 2 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; as well as many relatives and dear friends.

Milo was preceded in death by his parents, Severin and Signe Holmen; son, Michael; sister, Malinda Flatgard; four brothers, Orris, Alvin, Orrin and Seiford; nephews, Stanley, Robert, Oniel, and David Flatgard, and Roger Holmen.
