A Celebration of Life Service to honor the life and legacy of Nickolas "Big Nick" Meyer, age 77, of Storden, will be held Friday, January 3rd at 11:00 AM at Amo Lutheran Church in rural Storden. Burial will be at a later date in Rose Hill Township Cemetery, Cottonwood County, Minnesota.

A visitation for Nick will be held on Thursday, January 2nd from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Storden Community Center in Storden, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, January 3rd at Amo Lutheran Church for one hour prior to the service from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.

Nickolas Rudolph Meyer aka Big Nick was born on February 6, 1947, in Windom, Minnesota, to Ralph Meyer and Nora (Mischke) Meyer. He was baptized and confirmed at Rose Hill Church in Rose Hill Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota, and graduated from Storden High School in 1965. Nick went on to earn a two-year degree from Waldorf University in Forest City, Iowa, where he also played football. As one of the last players there to play both offense (fullback) and defense (middle linebacker), he embodied determination and versatility—qualities he carried throughout his life.

In April 1969, Nick married Patty Boeck, and together they had three children: Jennifer, Joshua, and Christopher. In November 1996, he married Blanche Dunnick. Growing up on a farm instilled in Nick a lifelong love for the land, which led to his dedication to farming beginning in 1975. Before this, he worked for Bell Telephone Company and spent a summer with Boeck's Construction, working alongside his future father-in-law, Howard Boeck and brothers-in-law Reid & Rodney Boeck.

Nick was a man of many talents and passions. He served on the board of directors for Meadowland Coop and restored antique tractors, hosting tractor pull events across Minnesota, Iowa, and South Dakota, using the tractor pull sled he built by hand. He even built a three-wheeled motorcycle out of a Volkswagen Beetle. Known as someone who could fix anything, Nick was a problem-solver and go-to handyman for his community. He brought joy to many as Santa Claus for Storden Days and local families for years.

A man with a big heart, Nick was a great hugger, a captivating bedtime storyteller, and a patient teacher who helped many learn to drive. He was a dedicated member of AA, sharing his journey of sobriety and inspiring others toward healthy living. His signature bib overalls were as iconic as his hardworking spirit, and his faith guided him as a longtime member of Amo Lutheran Church in rural Storden.

Nick passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, surrounded by loved ones. After living a full and meaningful life, his heart finally wore out, but his legacy of love and humor endures.

Nick is survived by his three ridiculously good-looking children: Jennifer Zupfer (Scott), Joshua Meyer (Kate Lincoln-Goldfinch), and Christopher Meyer (Zach Herbst); his six ridiculously good-looking grandchildren: Meghan Meyer, Tanner Frederickson, Abigail Zupfer, Norie Meyer-Goldfinch, Deacon Zupfer, and Winslow Meyer-Goldfinch; and his great-grandchild, Moana Walks Over Ice (also ridiculously good-looking). He also leaves behind his siblings: Jeannine Holmberg, Carol Flitter, Bob Meyer (Carrie), Marv Meyer (Diane), Rich Meyer (Wendy), and Lillian Gronewold (Mark), as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Blanche, parents, Ralph and Nora Meyer; sister, Ramona Meyer; and brothers-in-law Darrell Holmberg and Gerald Flitter.

Blessed be the memory of Nickolas Rudolph Meyer. His humor, kindness, and unwavering love will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
