Norman Edward Kelm was born May 30, 1928 in Waterville, MN to Carl and Esther (Krueger) Kelm. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kilkenny. Born with farming in his bones, he hurried home from school to help with chores and crops. He attended country school and graduated from Waterville High School. He was drafted into the Army and served in Germany with the 510th Tank Battalion. After his discharge, he farmed with his dad. On August 22, 1959 Norman married Margaret Kuehl at Centenary Methodist Church in Mankato. They bought and moved to a farm by Westbrook in 1962. He raised corn, soybeans and hogs. They had three children who helped on the farm. Old time music, dancing and square dancing were a big part of his life. He liked to go to flea markets, garage sales and auctions and driving around to see the country. He was a member of Amo Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. He was a 4-H leader and a member of the Cottonwood County Corn Growers. In retirement they enjoyed traveling, especially to Branson, MO and a farm tour to Germany. They enjoyed 20 years wintering in Arizona where he liked to play shuffleboard. He also liked woodworking and spending time with family. Norman is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret; children: Kristine (Richard) Isder of Milan, MN, Bruce (Shirley) Kelm of Rogersville, MO and Wayne (Sheri) Kelm of White, SD; granddaughters: Allek (Matt) Scheele, Jordan (Carter) Potthoff, Laura Kelm, Anna (Justin) Middleton; great grandsons: Oliver, Landon and Sawyer; brother Glen (Sharon) Kelm of Waterville. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister and brother-in-law Thelma and John Jr. Watzek. Norman died peacefully on Friday, April 16, 2021 at the Westbrook Good Samaritan Society at the age of 92. Blessed be his memory. A Celebration of Life Service for Norman Kelm, age 92, of Westbrook, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at the Amo Lutheran Church in rural Storden with Pastor Harvey Pedersen officiating. Burial will follow at the Amo Lutheran Cemetery in rural Storden, with full military honors provided by the Herbert Reese American Legion Post #391 of Storden. Visitation will be on Friday, April 23, 2021 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Storden Community Center in Storden, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at the Amo Lutheran Church in rural Storden from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Masks are required to attend the visitation and funeral services.
