Obituary

Owen Paul Ensrud was born to the late Ole and Marjorie (Ackerman) Ensrud, on June 12, 1933, in Albert Lea, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical Free faith.

Paul attended and graduated from public school. After graduation, Owen continued his education at Mankato State University earning his bachelor's degree in music education. Owen met the love of his life, Irene, in college. In 1953, Owen enlisted in the United States Navy, ranking as a Petty Officer, First Class. Upon returning home, Owen and Irene were united in marriage in July of 1961 at the First Baptist Church in Montevideo, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with one son, Erik. They lived in Mapleton for a few years before moving to their forever home in Jackson in 1968. Owen was the band and choir director for Jackson Public Schools for more than thirty years. Even after retirement, Owen worked part time for the school as a custodian.

Owen loved the arts. He had a keen eye and a unique perspective, capturing images behind the camera lens. He caught many impactful moments as a wedding photographer. He loved still images as well; he had many shows as a nature and barn photographer. After retirement, Owen joined the Over 60 Band as their tuba player.

Owen Paul Ensrud passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 24, 2023, at Keelson Harbour Assisted Living in Spirit Lake, Iowa, at the age of 90.

Owen is survived by his son, Erik (Angela) Ensrud of Jackson.

Owen was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Marjorie Ensrud; his loving wife of 60 years, Irene Ensrud.

A Celebration of Life Service for Owen Paul Ensrud, age 90, of Jackson, will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Jackson, Minnesota with Pastor Riley Place officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Clayton Cemetery in rural Blue Earth, Minnesota. Military Honors will be provided by the Jackson American Legion and VFW Liberty Post #130 outside the Celebration of Life Center in Jackson immediately following the service.

A time of visitation and gathering will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, at the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Jackson.

The service will be livestreamed on the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center Facebook page.
