Obituary

Pearl Ann Swanson was born on March 6, 1926, in Rost Township, Jackson County, the daughter of Henry J. and Lily (Vestweber) Grein. She was baptized March 24, 1926, and confirmed on May 7, 1939, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield. She attended country school District #81, Immanuel Lutheran School, and graduated from Lakefield High School in 1943.

After working at Kalash Attorneys Office for 5 years she was united in marriage to Irvin R. Swanson on May 25, 1949. They farmed in Heron Lake Township for 44 years and then traded acreages with their son, Lee, in 1993. She continued to live there after Irvin's death on March 19, 2018. After suffering a stroke in August 2021, she moved into Colonial Manor Nursing Home. Pearl went to her home in Heaven on February 22, 2023, at the age of 96 years, 11 months, and 15 days.

Pearl was a homemaker who loved spending time with her family, especially on the holidays. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, doing puzzles, spending time outdoors in God's creation and traveling with Irvin in their motorhome. She loved flowers and her garden which she tended to before entering Colonial Manor. "Grandma's dill pickles were the best!"

She had a strong faith and was active in her church, attending Bible Studies, Ladies Aide, and taught Sunday School for many years. She also enjoyed volunteering for the Food Shelf and was proud to have donated 5 gallons of blood at the bloodmobile. Her most precious times were spent helping with her grandchildren. Pearl was very content with how God had blessed her and always shared a kind word with others.

Pearl is survived by her four children, Kurt (Myleen) Swanson, Lee (Rhonda) Swanson, Jean (David) Bass, and Debra (Joel) Burmeister, all of Lakefield; two sisters, Ione Gehrls, Okabena, and Caroleen (Fred) Kelly, McMinnville, Oregon; one brother Melvin Grein, Lakefield; 16 grandchildren, April, Angela, Amber, Kurt Jr., John, Jennifer, Joel, Charlene, Joshua, Jordan, Shaun, Ashley, Karissa, Landon, Devin, and Kody; and 42 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pearl was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Irvin Swanson; firstborn infant daughter, Victoria; and 4 brothers, Arnold, Earl, Vernon, and Dale Grein.

Blessed be the memory of Pearl Ann Swanson.
