Ralph Schuur was born September 8, 1909, in Beerta, Holland to Roelf and Renske (Geertsema) Schuur. His family came to America in 1912, where he received his education in country schools near Rushmore, MN. Ralph was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. On October 10, 1940, Ralph married May Korthouse in Windom. To this family 2 sons were born, James and Harry. Ralph farmed for several years early in his life. Later, he worked at Butterfield Produce where he was a member of Local 1235 (United Food & Commercial Workers) and served as chief steward. He was also employed at Caldwell Packing and most recently worked for the Toro Company and was a member of Machinist Local 1956 Union and was on the Shop Committee. Ralph retired in 1974. May and Ralph have been faithful members of Lutheran Church of Our Savior for many years. For many years, Ralph has loved to garden at home and also worked for many years in the Hy-Vee Greenhouse. Spending time with his family and especially grandchildren, in later years, provided him countless hours of pleasure he maintained an interest in their lives as well. He was an avid reader and kept his sense of humor even into the years that he lived at Sogge Memorial Good Samaritan Society in Windom. Ralph's life served as an example to all who knew him as a kind man who was content in his life. May died in 1995 and Ralph died at the age of 99 years on Saturday evening, January 24, 2009 at the Sogge Memorial Good Samaritan Society in Windom with his family at his side. His devoted family includes 2 sons and their wives, Harry and Shirley Schuur and Jim and Jeanette Schuur, both of Windom, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, Greg and Bee Schuur and Julia, Jeff Schuur, Terry and Wendi Schuur, Jodi Schuur and Thad Lambert and Michael and Mariah, Amy and Mark Flakne and Lauren, Nicholas and Jacob. Besides his wife and parents, Ralph was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 4 sisters, some of whom died before coming to America.
