Randal James Thom was born on January 27, 1960 to Ronald and Lucille Thom in Windom, MN. He was the youngest of five children in the family. His older siblings were Carol, Cindy, Darrell and Stan. Randal was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Windom. He was raised with a strong faith and was called Home to GOD'S FRONT ROW on October 19, 2020. Randal attended school in Windom; graduating in 1978 from Windom Area High School. In his youth, Randal enjoyed waterskiing, playing hockey, and football. During his high school years, Randal was nominated and served as the student council president, class president, and was crowned Homecoming King. After his high school graduation, Randal attended Mankato State for two years before enlisting in the Marine Corps. He was medically discharged after his service in the Marines. He was very proud to be a veteran and proud of his country. Randal worked in underground construction and other construction jobs throughout his life. He also bred and raised Alaskan malamutes. His "Fur Babies" were a big part of his life and they truly were his family. Randal Thom was an imperfect man who, after some extraordinary struggles in life, found God again. He also found his calling and touched the lives of thousands across the country. He certainly knew how to put a smile on one's face. His ability to make people laugh has been shared over and over by those who knew him best and accepted him just as he was. He will be remembered for his zest for life, his humor and his love for others. Randal is known to thousands of conservative and Trump activists around the nation for his dedication to helping in the election and re-election of President Donald Trump. He drove tirelessly across the country, bringing his flags, energy, and passion to every event he attended. He attended more than 70 rallies and even if you did not know him, you likely had seen him on TV at a Trump Rally often being interviewed and photographed by the media. He literally would spend his last dollars to travel to the rallies and flag events. Randal was extra busy in the past several weeks, excited to be campaigning at President Trump's re-election rallies and he was living life to the fullest. He had just returned home to Minnesota after attending a Trump rally and other related events in Florida. Hundreds of posts have flooded social media in tribute from people all over the country in the wake of the devastating news of his car accident and passing away so suddenly. He certainly owned the name "Front Row Joe". He was larger than life, silly and funny, loud, wild and crazy, even over-the-top at times, but he had a huge heart. He would show up anywhere and anytime, and answer the call for anyone's cause, driving hours to support even the smallest rally. He was a true patriot and loved this county. Randal is survived by son, Ronnie (Colleen) St. Louis, MO, daughter, Daryl Lynn, Bloomington, MN, sister Carol (Randy Schenk) Windom, MN, sister Cindy Clark Windom, MN, and brother Stanley of Big Lake, MN, 2 grandsons, 5 nieces and nephews, 13 grand nieces and nephews and literally thousands of his friends who dearly loved him. He was proceeded in death by his Father Ronald and Mother Lucille, Brother Darrell, Nephew Ryan Thom, and Brother-in-Law Merlin Clark. A Celebration of Randal's Life is being planned for spring 2021. Details regarding this event will be posted on Randal's FB page at a later date. A private, Celebration of Life Service for Randal (Randy) Thom, will be held on Monday, October 26th at 3:00 PM at the American Lutheran Church in Windom with Pastor Sarah Larsen Tade officiating with military honors provided by American Legion Post #206-Windom. A public visitation will be held on Monday, October 26th from 12:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the American Lutheran Church in Windom. Burial will take place in Lakeview Cemetery in Windom. Please be mindful of social distancing guidelines. The American Lutheran Church requires masks and to remain at least 6 feet apart from one another. The funeral service will be livestreamed on the LaCanne Family Funeral Service Facebook page. The video will start about 5 min before the start of the service.
