Today we celebrate Randy Don Hendrickson, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and a friend to many. Randy was born on September 23, 1951, in Lakefield, MN. His parents were Don and Darlene (Ysker) Hendrickson. Randy and his brother, Mike, grew up on the family farm. The Hendrickson boys were always busy doing something. They worked hard on the farm, and enjoyed 4-H, go-karts, snowmobiles, and motorcycles. Randy attended Lakefield High School and graduated in the Class of 1970. In high school, he met his sweetheart, Donna Dunse. On, May 26, 1973, Randy and Donna were united in marriage. They were blessed with two children, Brandon Hendrickson and Amber (Hendrickson) Knettel. Randy loved his family with all his heart; they were his pride and joy! In 1989, Randy and Donna bought Village Green Florist and Greenhouse. You would often find Randy either planting in the greenhouse or delivering flowers around town. Many people said that Randy was the happiest delivery guy in town. In their time away from the flower business, Randy and Donna traveled to Las Vegas, Bahamas, the Black Hills, and the Netherlands; and many other family vacations to northern Minnesota. Randy enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren's dance recitals, gymnastic meets, baseball games, and wrestling matches. He passed along many life lessons to his children and grandchildren. He loved to fix things, and on most Saturdays or Sundays, you could usually find him working on a house project or tinkering and fixing anything with a motor. He loved everything outdoors; he raised exotic birds, raced snowmobiles, hunted, fished, and enjoyed gardening. He enjoyed having coffee with the guys, trips to the casino, and was an avid Vikings and Twins fan. Randy and their cherished family memories will remain in the hearts of his family forever. Randy worked for the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MN-DOT) for 42 ½ years. In this time, he made many lifelong friends at the job he genuinely enjoyed. Randy would be the first person out in a snowstorm to clear the roads. He always wanted to make sure everyone got to their destination safely. Randy was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He was active in the church as an usher, Trustee and was the Lutefisk Chairman for many years. Randy passed away at Temperance Lake Ridge May 21, 2021 in Sherburn, MN after being a resident for 3 weeks. Randy was diagnosed with Frontal Temporal Dementia (Language Variant), which is a rare form of Dementia. Unfortunately, this form of dementia tends to strike at a younger age. Randy is survived by his father, Don Hendrickson of Lakefield; his wife, Donna Hendrickson of Lakefield; his two children, Brandon and Julie Hendrickson of Lakefield, MN; Amber and Bryce Knettel of Minnetonka Beach, MN; four grandchildren; Gavin, Ethan and Mia Hendrickson; and Kylee Knettel; one brother, Mike and Jean Hendrickson of Lakefield, and two nephews, Jason and Jesse Hendrickson of Lakefield. Randy was preceded in death, by his mother. From the family, we will miss our husband, dad, grandpa, aka "grand-paw". We love you and know that you are in a better place.
