Reverend Ludwig Daniel Scholl, age 93, passed away at the Sogge Memorial Good Samaritan Home, Windom, Minnesota, on February 19, 2010. Ludwig was born in Marsh, Montana, on April 22, 1916, to John Daniel and Elizabeth (Eckel) Scholl. He was baptized on May 21, 1916, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Marsh, Montana. His sponsors were Ludwig and Maria Weinrich and Karl and Gertrude Weber. He was later confirmed on March 24, 1929, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Ellis, Kansas. Ludwig spent 10 years of his childhood in North Dakota, moving with his family in 1927 to Ellis, Kansas, where he attended a rural school. In 1929 he entered Hebron College and Academy in Hebron, Nebraska, graduating from high school there in 1932 and Junior College in 1934. He earned a BA Degree from Capital University, Bexley, Ohio, in 1936, and graduated from Trinity Seminary in Columbus, Ohio, in 1939. While in the seminary in 1936, Ludwig met a young woman named Helen Marie Lehnert at a Midnight Luther League Christmas Eve Service. On June 14, 1939, they were united in marriage at the Divinity Hall Chapel at Capital University, Bexley, Ohio with Ludwig's father, the Reverend John Daniel Scholl, officiating the ceremony. This marriage was blessed with two children, Mary Elizabeth and John David. Ludwig was ordained as a Lutheran pastor on July 2, 1939, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Ellis, Kansas. He served at parishes in Superior, Nebraska; Denver, Colorado; Goodland, Kansas; Coleridge, Nebraska; Kimball, Nebraska; Cozad, Nebraska; Lohman, Missouri; and Delta, Colorado. Ludwig was proud of the fact every Sunday morning while in Goodland, Kansas, he preached at three different church services…made possible because he traveled to two different time zones. With Helen by his side as a faithful and devoted pastor's wife, Ludwig never missed one Sunday of preaching in 48 years of pastoral service. After retiring in 1987, Ludwig and Helen made their home in Loveland, Colorado. In September of 2004, they moved to Remick Ridge in Windom, Minnesota; and in February of 2007, they became residents together at the Sogge Memorial Good Samaritan Home in Windom, Minnesota. Ludwig was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom, Minnesota. Ludwig enjoyed the mountains of Colorado, model trains, writing poetry, singing, and working crossword puzzles with Helen. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Helen Scholl, Windom, Minnesota; daughter Mary (Daniel) Kock, Coleridge, Nebraska; son John (Paige) Scholl, Windom, Minnesota; three grandsons- Jason Kock, Columbus, Nebraska; Jonah (Amy) Scholl, Acworth, Georgia; Michael Kock (fiancé Whitney Patterson), Omaha, Nebraska; two step grandsons- Hunter Johnson and Landon Johnson, Windom, Minnesota; one granddaughter, Anya (Ron) Neppl, West Roxbury, Massachusetts; three great grandchildren- Chloe and John Lawson Scholl, Acworth, Georgia, and Samantha Neppl, West Roxbury, Massachusetts; one sister, Erna Johns, Lincoln, Nebraska; and two brothers, William Scholl, Dayton, Ohio, and Karl Scholl, Honolulu, Hawaii. Ludwig was preceded in death by his parents; one infant daughter; and one brother, Paul Scholl.
