A Celebration of Life service to honor the life and legacy of Richard Grotjohn age 89, of Jackson, will be held at the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Jackson on Monday, March 3rd, at 11:00 AM, with a time of visitation and gathering from 10:00-11:00 AM. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post #130 and VFW Post #900 of Jackson.
Richard Grotjohn passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Richard Merle Grotjohn was born to Albert and Edith (Fangmeier) Grotjohn on December 14, 1935, in Morris, Minnesota. He attended and graduated from Morris Highschool in the class of 1953 and was a lifelong Methodist.
Richard was blessed with four children: Michael John, Patrick Darrell, Douglas William, & Daniel Allen.
Richard had the privilege of living in many different places. These places included Morris, Sebeka, Detroit Lakes, Marshall, Worthington, Lakefield, Jackson, and Tulsa, Oklahoma. He worked as a meat butcher at Jurgenson Super Valu, Dick' Locker, Hoffman Meat Center, and Monfort Pork. In his later years, he worked as a custodian for local businesses, as well as the I-90 rest stop west of Jackson until September 2024.
His favorite hobbies included waterfowl and deer hunting. Richard had a considerable appreciation for watching nature. He also had great love for fixing and cleaning automobiles.
Richard is survived by his children: Michael (Kristie) Grotjohn of Willmar, Patrick Grotjohn of Jackson, Douglas Grotjohn of Willmar, Daniel (Derek) Grotjohn of Tulsa, OK; 4 grandchildren: Tara Grotjohn, Cody (Sierra) Grotjohn, Brendon Grotjohn, Mallory (Benny) Grotjohn; ex-wife, Mary Jane Grotjohn; sister, Judy Washek; sisters-in-law: Judy Friesen, Michelle (Mark) Bergh, Peggy (Bill) Foy, Lori Sifers, and Liza (Jerome) Jensen.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Albert and Edith Grotjohn; brothers: Miles, Robert, Paul, Earl; sisters: Joann Schnaur, Irene Reidner; and sister-in-law, Karen Holloway; brother-in-law, Richard Friesen; and father-in-law, Darrell (Cy) Sifers.
