Obituary

Ricky Lee Golda was born on April 19, 1966, in Worthington, MN to James and Leora (Nieuwendorp) Golda and he was the twin brother of Tim Golda who was 5 minutes older. He was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake in June of 1966 and was confirmed at the Heron Lake Methodist Church on March 28, 1982. He grew up in Heron Lake and attended Heron Lake Public School where he graduated in 1985. While in high school Ricky enlisted in the United States National Guard. After high school Ricky met the love of his life Linda Johnson and they two were married in Bagley, MN on August 4, 1988. This union blessed them with a daughter, Emma who was born on April 18, 2002. This marriage was later dissolved in 2007. Ricky enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Fort Leonardwood, Missouri from 1993 – 1995, Fort Polk, Louisiana from 1995 – 1997 and Fort Sill, Oklahoma from 1997 – 1998 finally returning to Heron Lake in 2000 to where he lived currently. Upon returning home Ricky worked in retail as a stocker for 15 years. While in the United States Army Ricky was deployed to Somalia. The war really took a toll on Ricky which caused him to have some inner demons. This led to self-medicating with alcohol which caused other health issues. Ricky wrote poems and letters to help him express his wounds from war. Those letters and poems are treasured today by his family. Despite all the issues Ricky had he was a devoted father who took great pride in his daughter, Emma. Ricky enjoyed hiking, camping, hunting, writing poems, soduko puzzles and crossword puzzles, and spending time with family. Left to cherish Ricky's memory is his daughter, Emma Golda of Fulda; parents, James and Leora Golda of Montivideo, sisters, Darla (Mark) miles of Maumee, OH, Toni (Todd) Homan of Montevideo, twin brother, Tim (Korinne) Golda of Fulda and many nieces and nephews and friends. Ricky is preceded in death by his grandparents, Herman and Alberta Golda and Jake and Ann Nieuwendorp.
