Robert Walter Boomgarden was born on December 27, 1941, in Slayton, Minnesota to the late Peter Egge and Anna (Bruns) Boomgarden. He was baptized and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church in Fulda and received his education in the Fulda Public Schools; graduating from Fulda High School in the Class of 1959.
On January 20, 1963, Bob was united in marriage to Carolyn Busch at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fulda. From 1963-1969, they farmed in Wirock, Minnesota and then Bob worked for Great Plains Lumber in Fulda until 1972. Bob then started working for the MNDOT as a maintenance man at Montgomery and in 1974, became a bridge worker with the MNDOT and moved to Mankato. In 1990, Bob became a bridge supervisor with MNDOT in Windom and retired there in 2004.
Recently, Bob's health had been declining and passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at the Windom Area Hospital in Windom at the age of 77 years.
Bob was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom and a Scoutmaster of Troop 12 in Mankato in his earlier years. Bob enjoyed working with gas engines, loved camping with family and grandkids, traveling-especially to Joel's home, reading Louie Lamoure Westerns, liked to fish, but didn't like to clean them so he did a lot of "catch and release".
Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Boomgarden of Windom; four children, Kristi Boomgarden of Fairmont; Douglas (Lisa) Boomgarden of Janesville; David (Crystill) Boomgarden of Mankato; Joel (Shannon) Boomgarden of Riverton, UT; 5 grandchildren, Mason, Ryan, Jonathan, Emma and Folsom; one sister, Marjorie Ulferts of Wells; and several nieces and nephews.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Peter and Gary Boomgarden.
Blessed be the memory of Bob Boomgarden.
