Robert "Bob" Turner, age 95, of Windom, passed away in his home on Thursday, January 6, 2022.
Robert "Bob" Ernest Turner was born on May 23, 1926, to Ernest H. and Jenny (Smestad) Turner at their home in Lakeside Township, Cottonwood County, MN. He was baptized at Reformation Lutheran Church in St. Paul on Sept. 10, 1926, and confirmed at the American Lutheran Church in Windom, MN on May 19, 1940. Bob attended country school in Cottonwood County, District #23. He attended Windom Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1944. He served in the US Armed Forces from May 13, 1946 - November 19, 1947.
On April 4, 1964, he married Faye D Gerken at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus, NE. The marriage was blessed with two children, Kjell and Joel. Bob worked hard and enjoyed retirement at the age of 80. Beginning in 1950, Bob owned and operated Hiway Appliance and then built and sold UHF towers for Todd Communications, he farmed for twenty-two years, and worked in the TV sales and cable business, beginning in 1950, until his retirement in 2006.
Bob was a member of the American Lutheran Church and the men's chorus. He was very active in the community and was a member of the Prudence Masonic Lodge #97, El Riad Shrine, Sons of Norway, Cottonwood County Historical Society, Windom Kiwanis, Lamberton Commercial Clubs, American Legion Post #206 in Windom, and Walnut Grove Commercial Club. Bob's hobbies were flying, sailing and Viking's football. He also enjoyed social events.
Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Faye; children, Kjell (Liz) Turner of Windom, MN, and Joel (Samantha) Turner of Phoenix, AZ; two grandchildren, Brian (April) Turner and Jennifer Turner; one great-grandchild, Arielle; and one brother, A. Wiggins (Wanda) Turner of Bingham Lake, MN.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John Peter Turner; and one sister, Joan (Robert) Reed.
