Robert F. Sutherland, Sr. was born on December 26, 1927, at home in rural Windom to the late Ray Francis and Mabel H. (Scurr) Sutherland. He received his education in rural Mt. Lake Country School. His country called him to military service during the Korean War. He served in the U.S. Army beginning in 1950 until 1952 when he received an Honorable Discharge. On November 19, 1955, Bob was united in marriage to Connie J. Coulson at the Methodist Church in Jeffers. He was blessed with three children, Robert, Sheli and Deb. He farmed in the Delton Township Area for many years raising crops and hogs from farrow to finish. When he retired from farming in 1985, he moved to Rochester, MN and worked in the maintenance department at Park Towers Apartments. In 1991, he moved back to Windom and retired. Bob enjoyed time with his family and they went on many fishing trips up north together. He also enjoyed hunting (deer, goose and pheasant) with family and friends. Later in life, he enjoyed going to the Senior Citizen Center and playing cards and pool with his friends. In March of 2015, Bob's health was declining and he entered the Good Samaritan Society – Sogge Memorial. He remained living there until passing away on Thursday morning, August 18, 2016, at the age of 88 years. Bob is survived by Connie Sutherland of Windom; three children, Robert F. (Kathy) Sutherland Jr. of Sauk Centre; Sheli (Eugene) Fast of Windom; Deb (Larry) Smith of Windom; 8 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Rodoni of Windom and Joyce (Ronald) Voshage of Odin; sister-in-law, Lorene Sutherland of Windom; and many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Sutherland; and granddaughter, Brooke Sutherland; and brother-in-law, David Rodoni. Blessed be the memory of Robert F. Sutherland, Sr.
