Robert Lange passed away on Friday evening, October 6th, surrounded by his family at his home in Windom.

Robert Arnold Lange, son of the late Arnold Daniel Lange and Josie Minnie (Splinter) Lange, was born on December 4, 1934, in Section 28, Waterbury Township, of Redwood County, Minnesota, during a snowstorm.

As an infant, Robert was baptized under the Christmas Tree, and later confirmed at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Waterbury Township. His godparents were Hiram and Hazel Thormodson and Michael Lange.

Robert attended Country School District #64 through fifth grade, and graduated from Lamberton High School in 1952. He furthered his education by attending St. Olaf College, in Northfield, Minnesota, from 1952 to 1956, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Majoring in Music and Minoring in English.

During his college years he was a member of the ROTC (Reserve Officers' Training Corps). ROTC prepared Robert to spend four years in the United States Air Force (USAF) as a Navigator, attaining the Rank of First Lieutenant in the first six months of duty. He further served his country in the United States Air Force Reserve, and was promoted to Captain. On October 30, 1970, Robert was Honorably Discharged from the USAF for his honest and faithful service.

In 1962, Robert utilized his Music Degree as an Instrumental Instructor. He taught music from 1962-1978 in Arlington, Okabena, and Lakefield Public School districts in Minnesota. To his students, he was known as "Mr. Lange." His work ethic, discipline, and professionalism, were qualities cherished by parents and students. Under his tutelage, his band students received many superior ratings and accolades at Music Contests and Band Marching Events. He instilled upon his students that prestige, practice, respect, and self-discipline were important qualities which could enrich their lives in the real world. He was extremely proud that in 1972, his Okabena Bluehawk Marching Band, garnered third place at the Minnesota State Fair Marching Band Competition. This honor propelled his students to be the best band in its school conference.

On August 10, 1963, Robert married Marles Arlene Pomerenke from Okabena, Minnesota, in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church at Okabena, Minnesota. They were blessed with a wonderful son, Robert Arnold Ludwig Lange, on June 7, 1978. Robert always said the most joyous day of his life was when his son was born. Robert and Marles celebrated 60 years of marriage on August 10, 2023.

Robert was always a steward of the land. He believed that it was his honor to cultivate "God's Garden." From 1970 to October 6, 2023, he actively participated in agriculture as a full-time farmer. He never retired.

Robert volunteered his time and talents by serving on the Windom and Lamberton Cemetery Boards. For many years he assisted with the mowing duties at the Lamberton Cemetery. Whenever he was able, he played trumpet in the Okabena Legion Post 608 German Band. Parade route viewers would cheer and sometimes start dancing to the Polka Music being played.

Robert loved Easter. Many years he played trumpet with the American Lutheran Church Easter Brass Choir, which played at many of the services.
