Rodney Arthur Snyder, son of Frank and Ardis (Rodsater) Snyder was born in Bemidji, MN on September 3rd, 1933. He attended Windom Area Public Schools where he graduated and then attended the University of Minnesota, where Rodney played basketball. He later graduated from Mankato State with a degree in teaching. Rodney was a talented athlete. He was offered a contract by the St. Louis Cardinals but declined the offer so he could join the United States Army and fight for his country. Rodney served in the Korean War.
After being honorably discharged from the United States Army Rodney had various teaching and coaching positions. He taught in Minnesota Lake and Saydell, Iowa and he was the Dean of Students in Blue Earth, MN. Rodney coached football, basketball, and baseball.
Rodney met Mary Pat Ascheman and the two were married. This union blessed them with four sons, Mike, Mark, Greg, and Tim. The family then moved to Alaska in 1978, where Rodney worked at Fort Richardson Army Base as a Civilian Personnel. In 1990, the family returned to Windom and in 1996 Mary Pat Snyder passed away.
Rodney then met, Betty Yochem and the two were joined in marriage in 1999. They moved to Westbrook, and that is where Rodney resided until his passing. Rodney had the gift of gab and could strike up a conversation with anyone and everyone.
He enjoyed raising horses, camping, sports, hunting, fishing, and playing cards. He is a member of the Windom High School Hall of Fame and the Westbrook VFW.
On Monday, February 14, 2022, Rodney passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritan Society Sogge Memorial in Windom, MN at the age of 88 years.
Left to cherish Rodney everlasting memory is his wife, Betty Snyder of Westbrook; three sons, Mike Snyder of Windom, Greg Snyder of River Falls, WI, and Tim (Robin) Snyder of Windom; step children, Greg Parker, Tammy Atkins, Paul (Paula) Parker, Sandy (Leon) Sand, Curt (Anne) Yochem and Kim Lidtke; brother, Frank (Pam) Snyder; grandkids, Amber (Ramon), Danny, Laura, Katy, Emma, and Chloe; many great great grandkids and friends.
Preceding Rodney in death is his first wife, Mary Pat Snyder; son, Mark Snyder; step daughter in law, Nancy; parents, Frank and Ardis Snyder.
