Roger Foss Engen was born on July 26, 1936, to the late Clifford and Ida (Foss) Engen, in Tracy, Minnesota. He was baptized on August 31, 1936, and later confirmed on June 17, 1951, at Highwater Lutheran Church in rural Lamberton, Minnesota. Roger attended Lamberton High School, and then he was drafted to the United States Army, where he served in Germany for about one year.
On September 12, 1959, Roger was united in marriage to his love, Marlis LeAnn Mattison. Together the couple raised four children, Kent, Diane, Laurie, and Michele. The family made their home on the farm in rural Lamberton, where Roger and Marlis raised cattle and grew corn and soybeans. Roger loved his farm cats and dogs. He retired at the age of 62, and like many farmers, Roger continued to help on the farm.
Roger was a lifetime member of the Highwater Lutheran Church, where he served on the church board, and attended Bible Study. He was active in the community with the Sons of Norway and served on the school board. Roger loved making popcorn for the family and was proud of his Norwegian heritage. Roger and Marlis went square dancing and loved Polka Funtime and listening to the Wendingers. They travelled extensively, played bingo and golf, and cherished time with family and friends.
On Wednesday, November 1, 2023, Roger was called home to Heaven. Roger passed away at his home in rural Lamberton with his loving family at his side, at the age of 87 years.
Left to cherish Roger's everlasting memory, are his children, Kent Engen of Storden, Diane (Kevin) Determan of Jeffers, Laurie (Pete) Meidl of Prior Lake, and Michele (David) Thordson of Lamberton; eight beloved grandchildren, Angel Uribe (special friend, Chris Schmahl), Joslyn Nelson (special friend, Jimmy Richard), Jacob (Nicole) Meidl, Sam (Sammy) Meidl, Matt (Molly) Meidl, Tommy Meidl, Mariah Determan and Ryan Determan; seven beautiful great-grandchildren, Hailey and Josh Knutson, Chloe and Joey Nelson, Isabel, Victoria, and Eleanor Meidl; one brother, Richard Engen of Lamberton; one sister-in-law, Sandra Cutler of Maple Grove; and many dear relatives and friends.
