Roger Allen Haar, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away surrounded by the love of his family on Friday, November 28th, 2025 in Rochester, Minnesota. He was born on August 18, 1952, in Ipswich, South Dakota, to the late Gary and Jenny (Sahli) Haar. He grew up in Ipswich, attending Catholic schools through the eighth grade before graduating from Ipswich High School. After high school, Roger attended Mitchell Area Vocational Technical School to pursue a baking degree, where he met the love of his life, Judith Ann Tiede. Their bond was immediate and enduring.
Roger was drafted into the United States Army. On December 30, 1972, Roger and Judy were united in marriage-a partnership that guided the rest of his life. Following his honorable discharge, Roger and Judy settled in Lakefield, Minnesota. Roger began working for Chuck Fields at Fields Bakery, and in 1975, just months before the birth of their first child, he purchased the bakery. Together, he and Judy operated R&J Pastry Shop for 35 years, creating a warm, welcoming place that became a cherished part of the community. Roger also devoted 25 years of service as a volunteer firefighter for the Lakefield Fire Department, a role he took on with pride and deep commitment.
Roger and Judy raised three children—Corey, Troy, and Kelli. In his earlier years, Roger enjoyed camping, hunting, and cheering on his children during countless sporting events. In his later years, he found joy in fishing, golfing, playing pool, watching NASCAR and football, and mowing lawns for the City of Lakefield alongside his buddy.
Roger is survived by his three children: Corey (Marsha) Haar, Lakefield; Troy (Rachel) Haar, Lakefield; Kelli (Chad) DeCook, Byron; six grandchildren, Austin (Kelsea) & Tanner (Mara) Haar; Kendra & Mason Haar; Trenten & Myles DeCook and two great-grandchildren, Oakley Haar and Everett Haar; brother, Dave (Joan) Haar of Hettinger, ND; sister, Mary Ann Roth of Roscoe, SD; three sisters-in-law Jackie Tolzin of Le Mars, IA; Joyce (Bruce) Frerichs of Le Mars, IA; and Janice Harmon of Hurley, SD; brother-in-law Jim (Cathy) Tiede of Parkston, SD; and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy; his parents, Gary and Jenny Haar; his father-and mother-in-law, Donald and Leola Tiede; sister, Susan Haar; and brothers-in-law, Eldon Harmon and Larry Tolzin.
Roger will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, loyalty, and the love he held for his family, friends, and community. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.
