Roger Hartman Kopperud was born December 1, 1921, the 6th of 8 children born to E.K. (Eimer) and Linda (Mathiason) Kopperud. He was born at home in Brush Prairie, Washington and also baptized there. The family moved back to Ann Township when he was 5 years old. He attended country school one-half mile south of the home farm, then graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1940. He played coronet in the band. In June of 1942 Roger enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Williams Field in Arizona. He served in Denver, CO and Las Vegas, NV for gunnery school, as well as Amarillo, TX for airplane mechanic school. He was honorably discharged in 1946, while in Denver. Roger met Marian Warner at choir practice in 1947. They were married at Old Westbrook Lutheran Church on September 3, 1949. They lived on "Ole-on-the corner's place" for 5 years, then moved across the road to the home farm his grandpa had bought in 1910. He raised and sold feeder pigs, corn, soybeans and milked a few cows, selling the cream. Roger and Marian raised their three daughters and one son, frequently making trips to family Bible camps in the summer and regularly attending services at Old Westbrook. He was active in Lutheran Brotherhood, church council, as a Sunday School teacher and choir member. He also enjoyed singing with his brothers in a quartet. He could occasionally write a story through poetry as did others in his family. Roger faithfully led his family in devotions and prayer every night. As Grandpa and Grandma, they traveled to visit and babysit their grandchildren many times a year at Benson, St. Cloud, Amery, and Marshall. Roger and Marian also drove to Laredo, Texas four times to help at the Lutheran Latin America Mission for a month during the winters. After enjoying life on the farm for 61 years, they moved to an apartment in Lamberton, MN. In 2017, they moved to Peterson Estates in Westbrook and recently moved to Good Samaritan Society in Westbrook. Roger, a man with a deep, abiding faith in our Savior, was a great husband and father, with the patience of Job. He was also a baptismal sponsor for 6 nieces and nephews. Roger is preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, 4 brothers and their spouses, parents-in-law and baby granddaughter, Carly Patricia Dietsche. He is survived by his wife, Marian; 3 daughters -- Juanita and Tim Foslien of Benson, Mary and John Forner of St. Cloud, Rosalie and Cary Dietsche of Elk River; one son, Duane and Julie Kopperud of Marshall; eleven grandchildren - Crystal Foslien of Mankato, Jill and Mark Pankratz of Mt. Lake, Tracy and Jakson Stevens of Benson, Laura and Pastor Cody Page of Trout Creek, MT, Katie and Thomas Nielsen of Townsville, Australia, Lindsay and Jim Noreen of St. Michael, Jordan and Rachel Dietsche of Elk River, Emily and Robb Ahrens of Louisville, KY, Beth and Logan Moody of Centennial, CO, Nathan and Kelsey Stacken and Ryan Stacken of St. Cloud; 21 great - grandchildren - Jacob and Wyatt Pankratz; Selah and Cressi Stevens; Cody James and Chevelle Page; Elias, Isabella, Hanna, and Anika Nielsen; Daylyn, Kyla, Jayce and Riley Noreen; Emery, Audrey and Rivers Dietsche; Jovie Ahrens; Oscar and Laird Moody; and Noah Stacken; two sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
