Obituary

Roger Edwin Morphew was born in Cordova, MN on May 21, 1942 to Clarence and Edith (Horkey) Morphew. He was baptized and confirmed in 1957 at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior. Roger's life can be summed up by saying he loved three things: work, cars, and racing. Roger did carpentry work for Eugene Schmalz for many years, building apartment buildings and condominiums in Windom. Roger and Terry Fredin teamed up and continued doing all types of carpentry jobs. Both of Roger's sons, Tim and Jeff, worked for them too. Roger continued working on his own doing various carpentry jobs, until his illness in August of 2020. Roger did snow removal for Marv Bottin for several years. He then started his own lawn care and snow removal service. It was Roger's plan to keep his sons occupied. Roger loved all things involving cars. He drove demolition derby cars. For many years, he worked on and helped the pit crew for a modified car. When a local tractor pulling club was formed, he built his own tractor puller, and he named it "The Gambler". Roger won the Points Championship in 1986. Years later, Roger and his sons purchased a racecar. They raced at Murray County Speedway and Jackson Speedway for nine years. He raced with legends, Doug Wolfgang and Dave Blaney. He enjoyed listening to Johnny Cash, Elvis and the Beach Boys. Roger had many project cars he was working on, but his pride and joy car was his '55 Chevy. He was a member of the Black Knights Car Club. As a "member" of the McDonald's coffee group, Roger could be found there every night. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Edith. He is survived by his sons; Tim and Jeff Morphew, and his grandchildren: Tyler, Levi and Kasey; two brothers, Dennis (Kris) Morphew, and Dan (Kathy) Morphew; and one sister, Shirley Paden. Blessed be the memory of Roger Morphew.
