Obituary

Russell Noel McCloud was born on July 5, 1926, in Jeffers, Minnesota to the late Orin Noel and Mamie O. (Ness) McCloud and was very proud to have been born on his grandfather's birthday. He received his education in the Jeffers Public Schools, graduating from Jeffers High School in the Class of 1944. A year later, Russell enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country in Korea until being honorably discharged and returning to Jeffers. Russell met Vonna Vee Giese while she was working at the City Café in Jeffers. On July 28, 1950, Russell was united in marriage to Vonna at the Methodist Church in Jeffers. They were married for nearly 65 wonderful years. Russell farmed for over fifty years until retiring in 1995 when they moved into Jeffers. On January 13, 2015, Vonna passed away at the Good Samaritan Society in Westbrook. Shortly after her death, Russell moved to Mickelson Manor in Windom until November of 2016 when he became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom. Russell passed away there peacefully on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at the age of 94 years. Russell was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Jeffers where he ushered for many years. Russell also was active in his community with the Jeffers Cemetery Board and the Jeffers Lions Club. He will be remembered for his love of gardening, raising pheasants and several other kinds of fowl, eating out and going to high school basketball games with Vonna. He loved to watch sports on TV. Wonderful memories were made with annual family trips to the Black Hills, Medora and other destinations as well as helping his kids with their 4H projects. But most of all, Russ will be remembered for the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Russell is survived by his four children, Ronald (Karen) McCloud of Maple Grove; Janet McCloud of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; DeeAnn (Alan) Schmitz of Emmetsburg, IA; Randy (Lisa) McCloud of Eden Prairie; 12 grandchildren, Ryan (Theresa) Senst, Kathryn (Jon) Howard, Jamie Senst, Kelly (Eric) Sáez, Megan (Ryan) Smith, Paul Senst, Robin (Blake) Kadinger, Christa (Derek) Adamczyk, Eric (Tina) Schmitz, Luke Senst, Zachary (Taylor) McCloud and Mackenzie (Joseph) Springman; several great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Jane Giese of Slayton; and many nieces and nephews.
