Samuel "Speedy / Smilin' Sam" Kummrow was born on August 16, 1955, in Alexandria, Minnesota to the late Hilbert August and Delores (Larson) Kummrow Getchell. He was baptized at the First Lutheran Church in Kensington, Minnesota and later confirmed in that same church. Sam received his early education in Kensington and graduated in 1973 from Lakefield, Minnesota. He then went onto Alexandria Tech where he earned a degree in part sales and mechanics.

On August 3, 1974, Sam was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Baloun in Lakefield. This marriage was blessed with four children, Shawn, Henry Adam, Angela, and Sara. Through the years, Sam was first employed as the parts man at Lee Motors in Alexandria, Minnesota and then, after moving to Jackson, became the parts man at Hedenquist Motors in Jackson before owning and operating Speedy's Sales and Service in Jackson.

Sam was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Jackson. He had many enjoyments in life which included deer hunting, camping, collecting many different items through the years, spending time at the shop and with customers. Most of all, Sam enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

On Friday morning, July 21, 2023, Sam became suddenly ill at home and was taken to the Sanford Jackson Medical Center in Jackson and passed away there at the age of 67 years.

Sam is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Mary Kummrow of Jackson; four children, Shawn (Kristina) Kummrow of St. Boni; Henry Adam (Perian) Kummrow of Jackson; Angela Kummrow of Jackson; Sara (Fabian) Kummrow of Jackson; five grandchildren, Haley, Samantha, Haden, Heston, and Johnathan; five siblings, Vicky Forrestal of Coon Rapids; Tom (Judy) Kummrow of Kensington; Joe (Cindy) Kummrow of Washington State; Ida (Bill) Eisel of Farwell; Loretta Kummrow of Anoka; and many nieces and nephews.

Sam is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Gene, Mike and Patrick Kummrow; and one sister, Julie Strohman.

A Celebration of Life Service for Samuel "Speedy Sam" Kummrow, age 67 of Jackson, will be held on Thursday, July 27th, at 10:30 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Jackson with Pastor Ted Carnahan officiating.

A time of visitation and gathering will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, July 26th, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Jackson and on Thursday for one hour prior to the service at the church in Jackson.

The service will be livestreamed on the Our Savior's Lutheran Church Facebook page.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
